A few Sonoma Syrahs(with one sonoma chard)

This turned into an impromptu thing. I was just supposed to hang out with jim, but Ben then called, we pulled some syrahs, and then it was on from there. Phillip later showed up, and it turned into a fest

• 2005 Radio-Coteau Syrah Las Colinas 91 Points

  nose: nicely perfumed nose with smooth tones of spices, black currants, red cherries, black cherries, black berries, and bits of pepper meld to create a well balanced and fruitful nose
  
  taste: Very smooth and well put together with spice tones, red cherries, black cherries, black berries, and pepper tones. Nice medium feel that flows well on the palate
  
  overall: a really well polished and drinkable syrah. Good medium body feel with a tasty peppery attack and black berry finish

• 2004 Culler Syrah Griffin 92 Points

  nose: dense and layered nose with a smoke base along with aditional tones of herbs, charcol, aniesette, and lots of dense black fruits just permeate. The way that the black fruits work, they remind that you are smelling a california wine, but this is far from big and bright fruit, and instead goes a more hermitage based route
  
  taste: well definied medium/full feel with smooth tones of herbs, charcol, anisette, and loads of black fruits
  
  overall: Great polish on this wine. Its the antithesis of being a fruit bomb. Well balanced nose and flavors that is more rooted in a northern rhone style. Good medium/full feel with a polished charcol attack and finish of herbs and black fruits

• 2004 Kamen Estate Syrah 92 Points

  USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley

  nose: rich and dense nose loaded with black fruits, coffee inflections, anise, smoke, with some oakish notes in there. Very well balanced
  
  taste: plush black fruits, smoke tones, coffee, and some dark chocolate tones with bits of anise
  
  overall: tannins are still very firm and present. Took a while to open up, but when it did, it presented a wonderful balance to it with classic california styling. Plush attack with varied black fruited with a coffee and anise based finish

• 2006 Eric Kent Wine Cellars Chardonnay Russian River Valley 90 Points

  USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

  nose: traditional california nose of popcorn butter, oranges, marmelade, some peach tones, and some bits of toasted oak
  
  taste: medium bodied with popcorn butter, oranges, marmelade, creamy vanilla tones, and some toasted oak
  
  overall: A really good wine. Nice medium feel that is traditionally california. Solid depth, this is in balance as its close to being over buttered, but keeps it in check. Nice orange attack and creamy vanilla finish

A nice way to spend a friday afternoon/evening. Sometimes some of the most fun days are the ones that don't start off as planned. A good day filled with good wine, can't beat that
