Some bright spark came up with the idea to do a Riesling tasting...others wanted other wines...so we had a slightly more than 50% Riesling quotient...
A lot of fun. Some nice Rieslings...
NV Billecart-Salmon Champagne Brut Réserve
France, Champagne
Plenty of yeast, aldehyde, brioche, biscuit and bread yeast, slight lemon. Toasty and tangy, muted citrus is tangy, brioche again, slight non-intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish. S'okay to nice.

2019 Weingut Max Ferd. Richter Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Ooh, a little kerosene (which dissipates with time), touch of sulphur, apple, very slight stone fruit. Medium plus intensity acidity , green apple, grip on the back of the throat, simple but opens with time and gains a little palate weight.

2023 Joshua Cooper Pinot Noir Doug's Vineyard
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Macedon Ranges
Slight whole bunch, super jubey; blackberry and cherry, buttery lactic notes, slightly earthy underpin, pretty with a slightly hoppy note. More of the same on the palate but it's quite tart with very slight volatile acidity (which doesn't promise a long life), not really any tannins, quite dilute. Okay now though.

2013 Vinogradi Nuic Merlot
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Hercegovina, Mostar
Rich, plummy but very oaky, a little savoury underpin. Plenty of drying woody texture, over the top of the plummy dark hued fruits, there is a little more sharpness to the acidity on the finish, tannins lends a little pepper to the finish oddly. Hmm.
