Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2023 Sphaerics Chardonnay overline 93 Points

USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros

The nose is fresh, balanced, and with a cool tension that really draws you into the glass with inviting tones of red apples, lemon drop, apple blossoms, saline, limes, crushed rocks, pears, and spring flowers that add some lovely lift. There is excellent depth that works seamlessly as the tones are so deft and balanced. The Medium bodied feel is refined and elegant with mouthwatering, medium+ acidity that has excellent cut. This really kills it at the price point. That cool tension on the nose carries through on the palate with a zesty quality that makes you want more. I would love to try this again in a few years to see how it develops.

  • 2023 Sphaerics Chardonnay on days and nights 94 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

There is a lovely rounded quality to the tones of Meyer lemons, peaches, nectarines, vanilla beans, some warm dough, poached pears, yellow flowers, and cinnamon spice notes. There is excellent depth that is really attractive and balanced while showing off some poise and stature to the notes. The Medium/full bodied feel has a wider quality whilst showing off the depth and rounded qualities of the nose along with tart, medium+ acidity that shows off some excellent cut. This is really friggin good. It doesn’t have the tension of the Overline. Instead it goes for some restrained brawn that doesn’t bowl you over, but instead has a sense of refinement.

  • 2023 Sphaerics Chardonnay if and only if 95 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley

This is just absolutely gorgeous. Even with it feeling like it’s holding back a touch, there is so much lift and elegance to the tones of apple blossoms, pears, nectarines, orange peels, candied lemons, quince, crushed rocks, apples, saline notes, and a lot of spring flowers. There is a lovely, harmonious quality that is ever so enticing while everything is showing a lot of poise. The Medium bodied feel shows off the refinement and poise of the nose while possessing racy, medium+ acidity that has some delicious bite. This is some top-notch Chardonnay that really brings the heat. It shows so well right now, but there is clearly more in the tank and I can see this improving with another 4+ years of aging.
