Introduction

Caught up with Phoenix and Peta and Loic for the last time before the latter two leave to go and live in France (in the Loire valley)

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2006 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

Red hued fruits; berries especially, savoury spice, forest floor, undergrowth, earth, a little cranberry, very slight leather and mushroom as well. In the mouth it's savoury with a juicy red berry core, silky tannins are super persistent. That slight cranberry note fills out the back palate. Elegant. Gains weight with time but no additional complexity. Simple but lovely.

  • 2006 Pierre Damoy Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Tamisot

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

Earth, leather, slightly oxidised notes, meaty, red hued fruits again but more sour/fresh than the Chambolle Musigny, quite savoury. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, red hued fruits, powerful; plentiful tannic grip has a coarse flour texture, super fresh though, those tertiary notes present as well lending a little more complexity, long. Not so much fun by itself but really good with the pigeon

  • 2006 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Medium plus intensity aromas are meaty, savoury, umami notes are hand in hand with red and blackberry fruit, a little spice, forests floor. Juicy, fleshy and dense, fruit more dark hued on the palate tannins are silky but offer mid palate weight, long. Best showing of this wine. Yummo.
