Garnet, slightly faded to the rim with a warm tinge. Red and black fruits, currants, cassis, cranberry. Dusty and green character, some mentholic notes, Cab Franc vibes. High acid on the palate, red and black fruits again with earth and mushroom, very concentrated and powerful.
My favorite of the flight for its complexity and power.
Slightly faded deep purple. Picked up graphite, cobwebs, plums, white pepper, cedar and baking spice on the nose. Very tannic on the palate and not particularly fruit-forward.
Deep ruby, leaning towards purple, opaque, no rim variation. Significant sediment in the glass - decant this wine. Nose leads with red fruit, then a bit of pepper and baking spice, vanilla and blackberries, granite. Palate opens with red fruit again, then good tannins, with black pepper on the finish.
Deep garnet. The nose developed dramatically over 45 minutes in the glass. Started off with a really off-putting whiff of VA, but this blew away after 10 minutes, revealing stewed red fruits, some petrol character (rubber tires and plastic), tomato leaf. With more time, also picked up Luxardo cherries, balsamic reduction and raisins. Thinnest of the flight on the palate.
Grew on me significantly after being my least favorite initially.
