Low intensity aromas but served very cold, with hand warmth dusty spices/earth a little non delineated citrus, oyster shell minerality. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, well integrated, tiny burr on the palate tugs gently, muted fruit, a little sulphur, oddly some alcohol warmth, Bit of a nothing wine when compared to other offerings.

2024 Gentle Folk Chardonnay

Lemon and lime, butter, a little sweet spice, touch of sweaty armpit lends complexity (!) Juicy, tangy, butter, oak, citrus fruit but a bit elbows at the moment. Time should help.

2023 Basket Range Chardonnay Estate Flawed

2024 Shaw and Smith Chardonnay M3 Vineyard

Toasted notes, lemon, slightly unripe stone fruit, sweet spice, very slight butter. In the mouth it's less rich than previous vintages, tangy, slight butter, sweet spice, time to come together, very young suffers from losing the Lenswood fruit this vintage.

2023 Michael Hall Pinot Noir Piccadilly Valley
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Piccadilly Valley
Dilute red fruit cordial, berries and currants, very slight rhubarb, touch of sweet spice, wild ferment, earth both of the latter in the background, complex but nice nose. On the palate it's more simple, fresh, slightly dilute red fruit, silky tannic rasp, slightly almost menthol note. S'okay. Quiet but persistent.

2023 Gentle Folk Pinot Noir Scary Gully
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
Slightly brooding; a sense of concentration, dark berry, slight cherry, wild ferment funk, a little oak polish, savoury underpin. Nice nose. Slightly laner on the palate, still with that sense of concentration, integrated oak, dark berried fruit, tiny wood glue note causes concerns for extended longevity. Nice to drink in the next 3 years.

2023 Shaw and Smith Pinot Noir
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
Clean, precise, slightly savoury underpin, blackberry and cherry have a slightly jubey underpin, sweet spice, pretty. And it is clean, slightly polished, well made pinot noir on the palate as well; silky tannins are persistent, smidge of non intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish. Nice in an inoffensive kind of way.

2024 Gentle Folk Sangiovese
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
Red cherry, a slight herbaceous underpin, a little lactic creamy note plus a touch of earthy almost forest floor with a meaty underpin. Interesting savoury nose. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity but integrated, tarry, slightly savoury, smidge of tomato and tomato leaf, fruit less prominent but still present, a tiny bit of alcohol warmth on the finish. Hmm. Kind of interesting.

2021 Michael Hall Syrah Mount Torrens
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
Meaty, concentrated, wild ferment and wood glue, dark brooding fruits, liquorice, tar, sweet oak spice, Crikey! In the mouth it's juicy, palate saturating dark berry fruit, silky but drying persistent tannins, powerful, super interesting. Needs red meat that moos. Kind of fun but the wood glue says drink me in the next 2-3 years.

Meaty, wild ferment, muted fruit, disappointing nose after the last wine. Juicy, slightly sour, coarse tannins, not very nice at all. Nah.
