Yellow. Apple tones. Ripe, sweet fruit with good acidity and soil. Very good base wine.

Light yellow. Mix of apple and citrus. Leaner than the AC wine, more lively with stronger acidity. Good finishing soil.

2023 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon Cuvée Guy Moreau

Yellow. More deeply pitched aromas with bruised apple. Rounder and richer than the regular Vaillons and seemingly lower acidity. Some astringency on the finish. More wood hasn’t done this any favors. I clearly prefer the normal Vaillons to this.

Light yellow. Airy, floral nose with some brothiness. Light, elegant feel. Apple fruit with good ripeness. Very good acidity and excellent soil. As is often the case, a lighter, pretty Grand Cru, but I thought it was a bit slight.

Medium yellow. More oyster and soil on the nose. Medium weight, more obvious oak. Citrus, apple, and algal tones, adequate acidity, good finishing soil. Dull compared to the Vaudésir but good length.

2023 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Valmur
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Medium yellow. Nice citrus aromas, some vanillin as well. Not big or dense at all, more lacy. Lively citrus zest, better acidity than the first two Grand Crus. Appropriately tight finish. At least excellent and maybe even better if the wood backs off.

Light yellow. Wonderfully focused scents of underripe citrus and sea breeze. Medium to lighter weight. Perfect tart green citrus, much less oak showing. Classic, mineral, and fresh. Loved this even if it is not the most powerful Clos. Best in the line up by a good measure.

Medium yellow. Some oak and light citrus on the nose. Still an elegant mid weight but the flavors lean too much toward vanilla. Less acidity and minerality. As is always the case for me here, I strongly prefer the regular Les Clos.

2022 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos

Light yellow. Medium weight. A mix of citrus and pear flavors. Quite mineral with excellent acidity. Nicely tart finish. Needs a few years. Better showing today than at La Paulée a few months ago, but I think the 2023 might still turn out to be the better wine.

Rounder and more citric than the Foret, good but not great acidity. Less mid-palate intensity. Quite a different expression and I greatly preferred the Foret.

Brothy nose. A bit rounder and citric like the Montmain, but excellent soil and finishing acidity. Excellent feel and length. Really good showing from a cru I never see in the U.S.

Lovely balance of orange and saline notes. Flowing, sweet, and long with late soil and excellent persistence. This is most complete and classiest of the Premier Crus. Should be outstanding.
