K&L Culver City
Tasted Friday, July 4, 2025 by AD_jutant with 60 views
This was K&L's celebratory 4th of July tasting. They chose Zinfandel as an epitome of American wine, though I would have organised a Madeira tasting to pay respect to Declaration of Independence's history :)
Very interesting line up touching on Sonoma, Napa, Amador, and Paso Robles. And some of the most remarkable producers of Zinfandel in the state. What more can you wish for? I guess, just to have a Bedrock Vineyard Sparkling Zinfandel :) A bottle I've wanted to try for a while now.
The staff were very nice and generous, great experience all around. The wines also did not disappoint at all. Under the Wire was very good and just a remarkable sparkling wine: complex and very unique. Husch rosé was good but not that interesting. I found Green & Red a little boring and too bulky. Bedrock was good as usual, and I was very excited to finally try Ridge. I understand the hype. Lastly, Turley blew me away. I was looking forward to trying it, but I did not expect it to be this good: it's very big and powerful even more so than Green & Red but it is very balanced thanks to the high acidity and very complex and long in flavour. At $60, it is honestly a very good deal.
2019 Under The Wire Sparkling Rosé Bedrock Vineyard 92 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley
Smells of white pepper, rose, strawberry. Peach and sage. Seaweed. A little savoury forest floor aroma. Wow.
Much darker on the palate with red plum and even a little blackberry. Anise and bark. Toast and a little aquafaba.
Long finish.
10/18. Another great Under the Wire. Fascinating, complex, incredibly unique, and long. I wish I had a bigger pour and more time.

On the palate, it’s medium in body with medium+ acidity and tannin. Yet, it’s dense and tight. Blackberry, cedar, and a little greenness.

Wow! Impressive stuff. I am actually surprised by how much I like this.
Incredibly complex: canned peach, earth, tamarind. Blackberry, prune. Clove, leather.
Tastes of clove and plum. Mixed berry juice. Hibiscus. Full body and high alcohol, tannin. High acidity. Blackberry.
Long finish with bay leaf, tamarind, and black plum.
11/18. Just outstanding. Wow again. It’s so rich and concentrated but it’s remarkably complex and well balanced. Really special.
