    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

    A nice and lovely bottling here with burgundian history and significance. Bouquet showing some sensuality and allure, with strawberries and mulberries dominating but palate felt a little too obtrusive and unbalanced from the get go - nice purity of fruit but acidity was out of whack.

  • 1978 Château Latour Grand Vin Flawed

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    First instinct was actually that it was a little corked, with a sort of damp muddy and cloudy note that dissipated and got a cleaner with air. While I thought that the fruit was drying out at this stage for me. With more air, the flaw was a bit more obvious. Not much experience with bordeaux vintages from the 70s other than 70 and 75.

  • 1993 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Mazy-Chambertin 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru

    This was rightly sensual and in a great spot today. Bouquet showing blood orange, cherries, plums, slightly savoury spice, violets, sadle and sage. Palate showing sensuality and finesse, backed by good length and concentration with vintage typicity acidity. Superb provenance on display here, I dont think anyone thought it was a 93.

  • 2017 Domaine Robert Arnoux / Arnoux-Lachaux Clos Vougeot 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

    Coming right after the rousseau, this felt like a younger brother of sorts - could even have been a very young rousseau ruchottes. Bouquet showing some savoury spices while otherwise dominated by candied cherries and prunes, with cardamom and cloves in strong support. Truly, this felt extremely vosne like in style and I thought it was a vosne grand cru - palate had great concentration and depth, fruits silky and tannins still quite grippy at this stage. Needs time, loads of it, but could be really good.

    Have been curious about this bottle and really wanted to open for a group who would enjoy this, As it turned out, en-route to the dinner venue, I opened cellatracker to get a look on how long I should let this air before tasting and 4 of the guests at dinner had this exact bottle a year ago! Sensual bouquet showcasing rosewater, violets, strawberries and bayberries. Palate does not have that deep concentration but instead very silky, sensual and mesmerizing - good focus and minerality on the finish with vintage typicity acidity.

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

    Admittedly, I don't know Rhone well, but well enough to know I was tasting something great. Rich and dark bouquet showing off grilled fat, cherries, dark plums, blood orange and sadle. Palate had great concentration and power, with aniseed and peppercorns rounding out the finish.

  • 2006 Château Lynch-Bages 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    A little too young and not up my alley these days but this was showing nice and well. Bouquet dominated by licorice, sadle, pencil lead, blackberries and chocolate. Palate had non-jarring concentration and actually pretty silky.

  • 2011 Christophe Roumier Ruchottes-Chambertin 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Rounding off with roumier is always a treat. Precise bouquet showcasing strawberries, plums, violets and sage in quiet fashion. Palate wise loads more concentrated and silky with focus and plenty of life. None of the greenness of the vintage here though I think this is 10 years too young.
