Introduction

I enjoyed dinner with a good friend at The Perlant on Friday, July 18th. The evening featured a selection of wines from both our cellars, creating the perfect opportunity to share some special bottles with the talented team at this wine-focused social club in Buckhead.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2019 Mas Xarot Cava Gran Reserva Brut Nature 93 Points

    Spain, Cava

Dinner with a good friend at The Perlant. Dark and complex with delicious character throughout. I picked this bottle up during a recent trip to Madrid, and this was my last bottle - I should have brought back more! We shared this with Jason, one of The Perlant's somms, to celebrate his recent achievement of becoming a Master Sommelier. A fitting way to toast such an impressive accomplishment.

  • 2008 Clos du Moulin aux Moines Auxey-Duresses Moulin aux Moines Blanc 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses

Dinner with a good friend at The Perlant. From my friend's cellar, this Burgundian white showed some initial funk on the nose with notes of decayed white flowers. The wine paired beautifully with the bucatini course and improved significantly with air and as it warmed up in the glass, revealing greater complexity and depth.

  • 1996 Tardieu-Laurent Hermitage 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Dinner with a good friend at The Perlant. Another selection from my friend's cellar, this nearly 30-year-old Northern Rhône showed an aged nose but surprised with a fresh, youthful palate. The wine paired excellently with the lamb course. Amazing how a well-made Hermitage can maintain its vigor even after decades in the cellar - this will drink on the young side for many more years!

  • 2010 Château Valandraud 94 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

Dinner with a good friend at The Perlant. I brought this Saint-Émilion from my cellar. The Perlant decanted it for us for 1 hour (there was an average amount of fine grain sediment). The wine showed initial tertiary notes but was filled with vibrant red fruit flavors. This wine clearly has many years of life remaining and drank beautifully the following day as well, confirming its excellent aging potential.

  • 2003 Williams Selyem Gewürztraminer Late Harvest Vista Verde Vineyard 90 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, San Benito County

Dinner with a good friend at The Perlant. A previously opened bottle from my friend's cellar, this late harvest Gewürztraminer from the renowned Russian River Valley producer was quite enjoyable. The wine provided a nice sweet counterpoint to the evening's savory selections.

  • 1931 Bodegas Toro Albalá Don PX Convento Selección 94 Points

    Spain, Andalucía, Montilla-Moriles

Dinner with a good friend at The Perlant. Another previously opened treasure from my friend's cellar, this nearly century-old Pedro Ximénez was thick, dark, and absolutely stunning. The wine's incredible concentration and complexity made for a memorable finale to our evening of exceptional bottles.

The highlight of the evening was sharing all of these special wines with the knowledgeable team at The Perlant. It was incredibly satisfying to present bottles that even this experienced wine staff had never encountered before and witness their genuine excitement and appreciation as we shared these cellar treasures with them.
