Introduction

I decided to select a mix of different Dal Forno and Quintarelli wines to display the different charactaristics of the two great but very different producers.

Flight 1 (7 Notes)

  • 1991 Romano Dal Forno Valpolicella Superiore Vigneto di Monte Lodoletta

    Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Superiore

    A quirky wine from a quirky vintage. It is in no way bad and has a full taste of blackberries, chocolate and vanilla. Medium body but seems to be loosing its grip without showing any secondary impressions.

  • 1993 Giuseppe Quintarelli Rosso del Bepi Veneto IGT

    Mature and delicious but perhaps a little bit delicate. A very pure and clear tone of raspberries with a hint of vanilla. A light sweetness follows through but has a lot of acidity but without dominating. A little too alcoholic in both nose and taste. A very nice and elegant wine but perhaps over the top.

  • 1996 Romano Dal Forno Valpolicella Superiore Vigneto di Monte Lodoletta

    Amazing nose with loads of impressions, pepper, vanilla, blackberry, meat and a little bit of sweetness. The taste is the same as the nose. Has a bright acidity that binds everything nicely together with a very long aftertaste dominated by black pepper. A mature wine that was enjoyed immensely :-)

  • 1998 Romano Dal Forno Valpolicella Superiore Vigneto di Monte Lodoletta

    A lot more powerfull than the 96 and has more alcohol and acidity and is a very dense wine that fills the entire mouth. The taste has powerfull dark berries, vanilla and black pepper with a light sweetness. Still very rounded but also very powerful. Can be enjoyed now if you like the heavy dark fruit character.

  • 1999 Romano Dal Forno Valpolicella Superiore Vigneto di Monte Lodoletta

    A lot like the 98 but even more powerful and almost violent. Heavy blackberries, vanilla and coffee. Still a very long and rouded aftertaste with only a little bit of sweetness which doesn't dominate.

  • 1999 Giuseppe Quintarelli Valpolicella Classico Superiore

    Tasted next to Dal Forno Valpolicella 99.
    Clearly a very different wine but still very high class. Has a very dominant acidity and a light taste of raspberry and blackberry. Huge body but only medium long aftertaste. Has a weird hint of mushrooms and a littly earthy tones. Clearly an untraditional Valpo but a nice a interesting wine.

  • 1990 Giuseppe Quintarelli Cabernet Franc Alzero 100 Points

    First impressions are simply: what an AMAZING and completely insane wine!!!!
    A smell of immense proportions, cedar, tobacco and a lot of different spices. Many layers already in the nose!!
    The taste is also almost insane... A lot of sweetness, raisins, vanilla, chocolate and pepper. The spices varies a lot in the mouth and it is definately a wine on its completely own level. Even though the sweetness dominates there is still a stringent acidity that binds everything nicely together. The length is also out of this world and lasts longer than any wine I have ever tasted. This wine should keep almost forever and is a true CULT wine. Not everybody will appreciate the sweetness but it is absolutely a unique wine... I simply love it...
    The rating is perhaps overkill but I can't give anything else once a wine leaves me with watery eyes :-)
