  • 2013 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Bâtard-Montrachet 95 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

    Big nose of golden orchard fruit, mineral and exotic botrytis. Wow, so fat with amazing richness and concentration. Classically Batard. Fresh and lively into a long finish with sweet fruit and botrytis interplay. At peak, though sound bottles should hold no problem.

  • 2013 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet 96 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

    Aromas started quiet but opens with ~20-30 minutes in the glass to show abundant orchard and citrus fruit with a kiss of botrytis. Wow an electric palate that is so concentrated and layered, yet also long and bright. Finish has length and layers upon layers. Just a bit more refined than the also great 2013 Batard from Alex side by side.

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

    Whoa, a nose that commands your attention with flashy orchard fruit framed with well-integrated oak and laced with exotic botrytis. Palate is broad, rich and concentrated while intensely spicy and floral. Long, dazzling finish. Even better with air over the course of a long lunch.

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

    Bright citrus and orchard fruit aromas with floral accents. Palate is rich with good power and Grand Cru concentration. Solid but not quiet electric levels of acidity, that makes for the best Chevalier. Very good - at peak.

    Clean nose with robust orchard fruit. Palate has rich orchard fruit and Grand Cru concentration, though is a bit clunky. While the density and concentration are to be admired, this doesn't have much else, and is therefore an under-performer (as Pernot can often be).

    Enticing nose of lovely mature black cherry with whole cluster and dried floral nuances. The palate is still quite fresh with still-suave tannins remaining. Impressive length with plenty of Vosne spice. Fully mature and probably just past it's peak drinking window.

  • 1986 Maison Leroy Chambertin 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

    Big nose is loaded with meaty black cherry and spice and is almost primary in nature given it's freshness. Palate has fresh, concentrated fruit and smooth, well-integrated tannin. On the shorter and simpler side. Apparently sourced from Dugat-Py before their own commercial releases.

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

    The most expressive and flashy of the 06 DRC trio. Full aromas of black cherry, spice and plenty of whole cluster. Rich, tasty and totally approachable. Wide open for business and delicious.

  • 2006 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands-Echezeaux

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru

    Decanted for a ~2 hours, back in the bottle, and served 2-3 hours later. This is far more locked up and reserved relative to the Ech and Richebourg in the same flight. Brooding black cherry with some spice upon coaxing. Big, ripe and stern with brooding power. Just staring to show its potential. Hold for 3-5 years based upon this bottle. 94-96 point potential.

  • 2006 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg 96 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

    Ripe and almost jammy black cherry aromas opens up to show a load of black tea, Asian spice and whole cluster. Not as forward and easy as the Echezeaux, yet plenty of lush fruit and spice. Just entering its drinking window with some upside as this develops some nuance.

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Explosive and enticing nose of honeyed orchard and tropical fruit, saffron and florals. Rich and sweet with just a touch less freshness / zip than I'd prefer leaving a heaviness in the finish. Very good, but short of truly great.
