A few friends (B&E + V&D) to celebrate the European traditional Christmas with some old wines from Bob's cellar and a few more.
Lovely time with like minded friends for a 'Christmas' celebration on a cold dark, very suitable, day. A few non-cellar wines drunk too but did not keep any notes on these.

Xmas in July - opening the celebrations with a fresh lively standard. Good mousse, on the acidity side but does the palate freshening well.

Bob's cellar, from magnum for Xmas In Jul. Looks fresh & good, nose has body and fruit. Tasting is on the dry & austere end and lacking body. Not wrong, but something missing and eclipsed by the 2009 Clonakilla SV. Disappointing

2009 Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 93 Points

Bob's cellar for Xmas in July. Dark red and full of fruit on the nose. Tasting reveals a superb and drinkable old Shiraz Viognier, rich fruit, some spicy pep from the Viognier, long lingering flavours. Full of life and vitality and beautifully drinkable. Wiped the floor with the 1996 Montrose.

1997 Château Suduiraut 91 Points

Bob's cellar for Christmas in July. Aged and dark looking. Nose was the opposite, plenty of acidity, marmalade and candied orange. Perfect sweetness with the right line of acidity. Perfect with the Christmas pud.

Bob's cellar for Xmas in July. Same fine ruby red. Good sweetness, aged raisins and Christmas cake, enough acidity to let it dance across your tongue with joy! Lovely way to finish the evening.
