Full disclosure, I work for Hatton & Edwards, but as such am lucky to enjoy lots of delicious bottles from the cellar here!

Testing a new cellar

• 2015 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays 93 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru

  A little too young at the moment (for me), but much promise.
  Very tight out the bottle, with slightly overwhelming ethanol on the nose. Great intensity of fruit, good structure (but tannins needs more time to soften and integrate), and terrific balance.
  Started to open out into delicious red fruits after a couple of hours, but either needs a few more years or a serious decant.

• 2013 Jérôme Chezeaux Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots 89 Points

  Spicy nose, with potpourri, cardamom, and some darker fruits.
  Palate is very luxurious, but starts to lean towards the medicinal as it comes up from cellar temp - viscosity mixing with the cassis and spices becomes a little cough drop-y

• NV Laurent-Perrier Champagne Héritage Brut 90 Points

  Very lemony nose - fresh lemon, lemon oil, and a touch of lemon-scented cleaning wipes.
  Nice, fine bubbles, tasty bready undertones, and a satisfying weight on the palate, but I can't get the cleaning products out of my mind.

• 2019 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 92 Points

  PnP - very delicate nose of yellow flowers, white peach and some wet stone.
  Beautifully energetic on the palate. Great balance of oak & malo, and the same floral & fruity notes follow through from the nose. Nice bright acidity and lovely long finish. Will continue to improve with time in the glass or the bottle.

  PnP - lovely balance of smokey rose, cherries and tar-y chocolate. Nice, bright acidity and teethy tannins. Became richer and darker over the 1-2hr drink-time.

• 2004 Ruinart Champagne Dom Ruinart Brut Rosé 94 Points

  Beautiful, delicate nose of strawberries, raspberries and some savoury, vegetal notes.
  Sweetness, yeast and acidity all in perfect balance on the palate, with a lovely grippy yet creamy texture, that keeps you wanting to go back in for more.
  Drank on its own and was delish, but would be fantastic with food.

• 2007 Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques 93 Points

  Takes time to open up. Delicious wild strawberries, cassis and some smokey-floral notes on the nose.
  Ethereal weightlessnes on the palate, but with energy, power and real length. Tannins well-integrated, but still extremely youthful and has a long way to go..

• 2020 Jean-Claude Lapalu Beaujolais-Villages Ce Blanc 91 Points

  Appealing nose of ripe pear, pear drops, white flowers, and an underlying salty/seaweed note.
  Very interesting oily texture, reasonable length, and good complexity.
  Wouldn't (and didn't) guess Chardonnay, but definitely a wine I'd drink again.

• 1964 Château Haut-Bailly 94 Points

  Powerful nose leaps from the glass with pencil shavings, spice, flowers and still plenty of red fruit and a touch of blueberry compote.
  Beautifully silky and plush on the palate, with great acidity that keeps it nice and fresh. Excellent!
  Was worried it might drop off, but actually improved and put on a bit of weight in the glass over the course of the 45mins-1hr before it was sadly finished off - would have liked to see where it went on to.

  Wow! Wonderfully stored and fresh as a daisy! Bursting with fresh, sweet strawberries, and just a touch of raw chestnut mushroom and forest floor in the most appealing way.
  PnP'd and was silky straight out of the bottle, but continued to put on some weight and, texture improved over time. Really lovely and surprising wine.

• 1996 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon 94 Points

  Opened to toast a director's work anniversary - sweet marzipan nose, with bright, zesty lemon curd notes. Some light brioche touches, but not overwhelming.
  Lovely palate with balance of sweetness and zingy acidity. Nice and long. DP always worth sitting on for a few years!

• 2005 Domaine Robert Arnoux / Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée 90 Points

  Tight and tannic on opening, but really opened up after ~3hrs slow decant in the bottle.
  Beautifully perfumed nose, with vanilla, black pepper, violets, and still a good dollop of strawberry.
  Nice balance of sweetness, freshness and tertiary notes, although after another hour the iron and blood started to dominate a little.

  PnP - much softer and with more body straight away than the Vosne.
  Dark fruits, sous bois, a little green stalkiness. Nice plush mouth-feel.
  Didn't give it time, but would have liked to see how it evolved - the Vosne softened and put on weight, so wonder if this might have followed suit and improved further.

  Drinking beautifully right now - on its plateau showing damp forest floor, fresh button mushroom and dried rose petals, all the while delivering decent levels of pretty red fruit and belle acidité keeping this juice still very much alive. One for the lovers of top, mature Red Burgundy? I should think so…

  Wow. Amazing nose of reductive match-sticks, bacon fat, and confected bubble-gummy notes. Fantastic stoney texture on the pallet, with all of the nose along with lovely grassy notes.
  Served blind and had us guessing everything from Silex to Montrachet.
  First time trying Roumier's whites, and hopeful I'll get to again some day!

• 1927 Château Latour Grand Vin 92 Points

  Not 100% sure on the vintage, but likely 1927 based on the client's notes, and other wines in the parcel.
  
  Totally balanced, with plenty of sweet strawberry to match the acidity, along with earthy, tertiary notes and a touch of tomato (/tomato leaf?). Tannins fully resolved, but still structure across the palate and the teeth.
  
  Bottle was stood up for weeks, and I wouldn't leave it in the glass for too long, but this was not just drinking a piece of history for the experience, but was truly a pleasure!

• 1993 Domaine François Cotat Sancerre Les Monts Damnés 92 Points

  With a little air, the nose shows sweet tropical fruit, mango stone, white flowers, grass and some sheep's wool.
  Pallet still has sweetness, along with a lemon-oil bitterness and a little honeycomb. Lovely, stoney texture, lots of salinity on the finish, and plenty of acidity to carry it through. Shouldn't be drinking this well at this age!

  Beautiful sweet red fruit and graphite on the nose.
  Soft, supple, and still showing plenty of fruit and freshness. A sweet, almost Burgundian strawberry start leads to a meaty, mildly bloody mid-palate, with a slight (and very enjoyable) animal funk to it.

  PnP - delicious straight out the gate, but continued to improve.
  Lovely, crisp strawberry and red cherry, with an underlying note of cola bottles that continues through to the long finish. It didn't taste confected, but the sweety-sweetness just added depth. All in balance and extremely tasty!
