France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Three consistent bottles opened tonight. Fresh and baked apple combine spiced, sweet and tart character nicely. Starting to mature, but gracefully with plenty left in the tank.
I tasted 3 of the 4 bottles opened tonight, all were consistent. Ripe lemon and lemon curd with good volume and depth, ending with bright energy. Overall wonderful balance, drinking so well already now with more to come.
Two identical bottles opened and tasted tonight. Stone and tropical fruits with an intense richness that hints at sweetness, but manages to easily retain its balance. Like most Viognier, better served closer to refrigerator temp than cellar temp.
Black cherry and plum with traces of black pepper and roasted meat. Very good balance now. I tasted 2 of the 5 bottles we opened tonight, both the same.
Magnum. Red cherry with wonderful fruit purity, tasting like a ripe, fleshy vintage Cote de Beaune as much as Gamay. Fun now. Last glass was less interesting on the 2nd night.
Excellent for its level. Ripe orchard fruit to start, followed by the same plus a tropical hint, yet also a crunchy, minerally textural character middle-to-finish.
Like an old Bordeaux with a light touch, showing great finesse as it kept opening up, with great length and persistence. One of my special bottles for Aline tonight.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Well spiced and bright black fruits with great balance and a long-ish finish. Alongside the 2011 Ruchottes, these were so similar with just more volume and density on the Grand Cru.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bright black cherry and berry with a floral and spiced start, great balance and depth. A great success for the problematic vintage. Alongside the 2011 young vines cuvee, these were so similar with just more volume and density on this Grand Cru.
