Introduction

The first Governors lunch hosted by me! Everything went off very well. Takashi did a GREAT job. Very casual atmosphere (since we had the place to ourselves) and the food was better than expected and better than it looked on the menu. A good time was had by all I think.

Tartare of Big Eye Tuna and Rice Crisp

1996 Henriot Champagne Brut Millésimé 93 Points

France, Champagne

Very young and frothy. Still a bit tight, but good acidity and structure. Really, these should be held for 4-5 years+.

Flight 2 - Hot and Sour Shitake and Shimeji Mushroom Soup with Chicken Dumplings (1 Note)

1999 Domaine Weinbach Pinot Gris Altenbourg Cuvée Laurence 93 Points

France, Alsace

Full golden color. full nose of rich yellos fruit and a hitn fo banana peel. Big yellow fruit with good structure and just a hint of butterscotch. This was very nice but they are certainly at or just passing their peak. Drink up.

2004 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Côte Bouguerots 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Rich electric yellow color. clearn nose of mineral and seasheet. Nice rich white apple and mineral palate with a tight finish. Still very young, but improving all the time. 93-94 pts.

1999 Pierre Bourée Fils Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 91 Points

A flier direct import from France - doubt this gets imported - from an obscure negoce. Full red color. Nice big forward nose of lithe cherry. Nice red cherry palate with clean bright acidity. Nice enough, but pretty foursquare, especially for amoureuses...

1999 Frédéric Magnien Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 94 Points

Full red with a hint of lightening. Lovely big briar black fruit nose with a hint of sweetness. Mmmmn, big deep red palate with sweet black cherry fruit, good structure, and a long finish. This was delicious but still young. 94+ pts.

Flight 5 - Star Anise Pound Cake with Lychee Ice and Poached Summer Fruits with Honey Cream (1 Note)

1967 Château Caillou Sauternes 95 Points

Both bottles showed very well. A great mature Sauternes. Deep caramel yellow color with wonderful complexity and medium sweetness remaining.
