There was a big debate on whether this had a whiff of cork and I certainly thought so at first, but after 36 hours it was not there so I’m calling it dusty/old cupboard rather than cork

  • 1995 Château d'Yquem

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Bottles open 10.00 tasted 13.00
In the nose, the wine shows beautiful oak, fragrant profile, balanced between floral and stone fruit character, the ginger/spice holds the 2nd role. With time and air, everything becomes more apparent
Palate shows an intoxicating profile, lower than expected acidity, spicier than the nose, mouth coating, honey, syrup, stone fruit, peach and apricot notes. The oak is more obvious here too, offers an almond hint next to all the almonds. The wine shows full body and never-ending finish. Utterly decadent, a saffron-infused powerhouse
    -/ 36 hours /-
So concentrated, rich, full oak profile
    -//-
It was very interesting that a lot of people actually preferred Doisy-Daëne over Yquem because of its overpowering profile
