  • 2023 Moric Furmint Tokaji G

    Hungary, Tokaji

Furmint, Villa Tallya, whole bunch, mix inox/old oak
The wine feels very different to previous wines (NR1 & NR3), riper, softer, more compact and concentrated, more sophisticated in a way, again the aniseed-like note, green apple notes, sweet spice notes
Palate shows far better balance too, fruit forward, citrus notes, very mineral, upfront, thin oak layer, very crunchy, lively, vibrant, long finish
There is a green note here, showing tannins too, very interesting

  • 2023 Moric Furmint Tokaji T

    Hungary, Tokaji

Furmint, village Tallya, south facing vineyard
Slightly different to G 2023, a bit riper but also distinguished, more floral notes too, some sweet spice notes, underlying sweetness, almost like a biscuit, green apple, grapefruit, pear notes.
Palate shows more energy, feels leaner, more linear too, very mineral (smoky mineral), green fruit, med body, med finish
Interesting to put this next to G

  • 2023 Moric Furmint Tokaji H

    Hungary, Tokaji

Furmint, Village Tallya, 500lt oak, 100m higher vineyard, a bit warmer place
The wine shows more compact character than all of previous wines together. It also feels like a mixture of the previous wines, floral notes, citrus, green apple notes. The oak is a bit upfront but not overly so, concentrated, citrus, green fruit compote, mineral.
Palate shows a very powerful profile, far oakier in style, nutty, citrus, mineral, full body, tannins from the oak too, grapefruit, quince notes, highly expressive, extrovert, long finish.
    Very youthful though

  • 2023 Moric Blaufränkisch

    Austria, Burgenland

The wine shows a more powerful and compact profile next to 2022. Ripe to overripe blue/black berry notes. There are some spices but more of herbal profile, a few stalky notes, fresh, sour cherry notes, fruit forward, friendly, a bit smoky too
In the palate, the wine shows again a more powerful profile fruit forward, juicy notes, bold tannins, the acidity feels more elevated too. The wine shows blue and black berry notes. One could claim it’s still a bit green as it is but it will definitely outlive 2022. The wine shows long persistent finish

  • 2022 Moric Blaufränkisch Ried Schwemmer Lutzmannsburg

    Austria, Burgenland, Mittelburgenland

Lutzmannsburg, youngest plot 1970’s, oldest plot 1930’s, 2 years in 500lt old oak, 4 weeks on skins
    -/-
In the nose, the wine feels very different to 2022-2023 Blaufrankisch, leaner, more vertical even. There is a strong green element here (almost like collard greens). There is fine thin cinnamon/nutmeg layer, there is almost a bit of VA here but actually helping the wine lifting everything.
Palate shows richer red fruit than expected, cherry fruit, the tannins are quite upfront, VA notes again, a bit aggressive as it is, high acidity, lean, vibrant, tart, long finish
    Not that easy for me

  • 2022 Moric Blaufränkisch Ried Schwemmer Lutzmannsburg

    Austria, Burgenland, Mittelburgenland

Roland’s personal selection of vineyards chosen based on vintage quality
In the nose, the wine shows freshness, fruit forward, profile, juicy, some floral notes too, ripe red and blue berry notes, some stalky freshness, there is a sour fruit note. You get the spicy profile of 2022 Blaufrankisch.
In the palate, the fruit is on the red/blue berry side, cherry, the palate feels leaner, a bit of oxidation, med body, med finish
I have to say it’s strangely “light” for a top selection cuvee
