Pale lemon in colour. The nose immediately indicated a sulphur (SO2) problem that didn’t shake off and prevented any meaningful comment on aroma. The palate showed traces of buttery, citrus fruit and there was a strong line of acidity that lifted the finish. Disappointing to see a basic wine fault in a white burgundy from a respected producer_RW1. 15

Buttercup yellow colour. Aromas of apricot, citrus and toasted almonds. Wide and buttery rich across the palate with a spicy viscosity adding to the mouthfeel, there was a mineral/wet stone edge to the long, lean finish supported and tightened by a persistent acid line. Great drinking now but no need to rush_RW1. 18.5
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
This wine has a deep ruby colour and a nose that shows aromas of ripe red fruits, earth and the faintest hint musk stick confectionery. The palate is soft, rich and complex with the red fruits matched with stoney/earthy flavours and some well integrated oak. The finish is long with fine tannins adding grip. Whilst it’s quite robust it’s also more lightly structured and floral than the Pegau. A wine that can be consumed with enthusiasm with or without food_RW1 18.5

Deep ruby colour with some browning beginning to show. So many aromas dark fruits, leather, tobacco and charcuterie all melded into a vinous whole. Full bodied palate, concentrated, plummy, leathery, rounded, rich, mature and mouth filling with soft but powerful tannins adding bulk to both the palate and the lingering finish. An opulent and complete wine_RW1. 19.5 Thank you Frank.
This, the flagship wine of Quilceda Estate, is 98 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon and 2 per cent Merlot. The colour is an impenetrable black red but swirled in the glass a purple sparkle shows at the edge. Powerful aromas of black currant, blackberry, chocolate and some floral/violets notes. An immense palate, darkly fruited, plenty of oak and tannins but not heavy in the mouth. A big wine but not one dimensional as some big wines can be, there’s texture, complexity, and despite a considerable (15.2 per cent) alcohol no heat showed on the finish. Would an extra per cent or two of Merlot do any harm?_RW1 19 Thank you Greg.
