Tasted at the domain.
An interesting twist to the usually playful expressions of this grape, this at relatively higher altitude is now mineral, citrus driven and with a vegetal side too. A serious wine vs the usual playful and simpler kins and dare we say even to the point of being austere . Bone dry. Good 89-90

Tasted at the domain.
The more classic fresh and playful and floral side , just rushes out and welcomes one to the party. Lacks the serious side of their Teixinha bottling but this is the real crowd pleaser especially for lazy summer afternoons that around here last from March till October. 88

Tasted at the domain.
Well aged and the nose is ever so welcoming, secondary, ratty , tobacco. Full on present on the palate and slight medicinal too. Young still and this can age for another decade easily albeit we have no data points on how. Full and muscular on the plate and at the moment it is all about the nose. Very pretty 90

Tasted at the domain .
This is now far too young and punchy, muscular and full on the fruit wine. Violets dominate as does the intensity of youth. This needs a decade of not more and judging by the 2010 we had before ( Papies 90 ) this can age and time will be its friend. Pointless to rate now.

Tasted at the domain.
Similar to their Touriga National ( Papies 90) well aged , earthy and well secondary and the nose is the highlight albeit ( again) a few medicinal notes . The palate remains muscular and full and needs a lot more time but would be a shame to loose that beautiful nose . 89-90 too

Tasted at the domain .
A very similar note to their young touriga national we had before ( Papies NR) that this is far too young and punchy, muscular and full on the fruit wine. Needs a lot of time and again we had with it the 2010 ( Papies 90) and this we know it . Muscular and youthful. Let it sleep. Will not to rate now as is pointless.

Seldom one finds a better wine to toast a celebration and this 2010 just rolled on, delivered a masterclass of of elegance and just moved without over trying or shouting. Elegant, laser focused and effortlessly balanced . Vintages come and go but Dom is Dom and this 2010 is now at peak and will remain here for another decade easily. 96
4 bottles on the day all consistent.

From a beautiful magnum and sourced directly from the library of the domain.
Firm, mineral, bright and bone dry. Stone fruits, touch reductive, persistent. Beautiful to see it age so well and definitely has another 5 good years. 91

Their top wine made from the best grapes of their parcels at this time ( nowadays is made from a new plot of old vines) and definitely a wine of quality and made with a lot of attention . It’s very good but like many of the uber selected bottlings we come across it also suffers from the fact that the drive to just have perfect grapes makes it also one dimensional and dare we say boring. Maybe with time this will evolve more as now it is still quite one dimensional and definitely needs some more earthy elements. 91
2 very consistent bottles

We are not brunello people so I his for us will ever be one dimensional and a bit cold. Crowd pleasing for sure but just not our cup of tea. 90-91
3 bottles on the day

Much like a few months ago this is now consistently beautiful and only just in its proper drinking window. The 2010 greatness shines through, soft richness to balance the st Estephe austerity and minerality. Every so pretty and with so much more to deliver from here onwards. 93
3 very pretty bottles

This is now at a proper state and just well in its full stride.
Soft herby, light dark fruits , bright . Not yet rolling secondary but just about to make that transition and then should adaa few points. Solid 92

Their serious rose that spends time ( we think 12 m) on oak and this definitely has the depth and seriousness of a well made effort. Polished and round , quite a bit more fruit than their normal rose and just works so well. Ever so slight confectionery side that we will forgive. 90

Quite a bit of tipicity but still a light and lacks presence wine. Good but not great. 88-89

3000 bottles , 7 years on lees this is probably the most worked on sparkling rose we have never heard. Sourced from the domain.
Round , polished and very pale in colour, frankly barring the soft fruity edge this has nothing to do with a rose. Not confectionery.Pretty 90

Following 3 beautiful bottles the day before ( Papies 95-96) this was the opening salvo of day 2 festivities and it delivered one again. 95-96

Disgorged in June 2014 with 6 g/l dosage and kept at the domain until recently. We had two bottles on the day the first was very oxidative and tired but the second one came in roaring with a fresh feel and brightness. Definitely shows evolution but has a vibrancy to it still. Very pretty 92 but a few questions to be asked for bottle variation.

Three very consistent and beautiful bottles full on energetic and bright, soft flinty, citrus. Not even a hint of premox, no hint of letting go and still with a decent amount of puppy fat and oak to shed before hitting its full stride. Beautiful no and with more to give. 94

It’s been a good 8 years since we had this a wine we have tried 4 times over the last 2 decades ( Papies 92-95 depending on bottle we guess) and we had 3 in neck/top shoulder bottles on the day. 2 solid and one brittle cork two bottles on point and one with the lower level and solid cork at 85% but the note here focussed on the healthy ones.
This is now well matured if course, tertiary , lather and tobacco , touch medicinal edge and full on herby . Healthy, soft and elegant and just a masterclass of what right bank Bordeaux can deliver at a great vintage like the 1995. The VCC is definitely one to be drinking now vs other of its kind ( Cheval Blanc, Evangile) but one needs to pay attention to fine sediment and bottle variation. 94 from us

Three very consistent and on point bottles which had the tough act to follow in the wake of the ever elegant VCC 1995 ( Papies 94) and thus note should be adjusted for that. Young , felt wound up and almost cold as it’s still primary in so many ways with lovely layered dark cherry notes ( we did not spot any tell tale tar notes here) and vs the VCC felt one dimensional . Good wine for sure and at the start of its proper life and with so much more to give. The modernity in the style of winemaking here works as the wine is not rustic or dry and benefitting from a ripe vintage should easily dance for another 2 decades. Just needs a bit more time to develop the secondary feel for the full orchestra to be playing. 92 for now but with more in the tank

Probably the last 2 bottles of this wine on the planet and a pretty surprise of what one is to expect from a Welsh Blanc de Noirs made at a time when the UK bubbles industry was trying to decide the where and how. Surprisingly energetic, very much alive and no oxidation, juicy and with red fruit hints as is a touch of confectionery side. Objectively 89 but for those flying le drapeau du dragon this will be a call to pride and arms.

After a split and full of life bottle ( Papies 95) this half bottle was a dud from colour to nose to palate. Shame.

Testament to the wine is the fact that it arrived at the end of a couple of days of full on beautiful wines and probably on semi tired palates and just lit up the night. Bright honey and apricots, stone fruits, light exotics and just fresh and full of energy and for a wine that will live to see 100 ( if stored properly) we saw but a glimpse or better we say one of its many faces ( and phases) for now and what a joy and privilege it was. 95-96 for now but the world belongs to it and those with some bottles and patience.

Cheeky glass to finish the evening and just ever so soft for a port and round. Big but without the heaviness and ever so round and polished. 91 and definitely long decant needed.

The algarve in a bottle. Citrus, freshness , saline edge and just a perfect friend with a lightweight tonic, some thyme and candied lemon for a garnish.
