Introduction

Fantastic food in a beautiful setting.

Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 2008 Philippe Lancelot Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut Les Bas de Saran 92 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

From magnum, 411 magnums produced. Quite round and rich, I thought this was a Pinot from a warmer year like 2012. Richness probably came from the oak use and long time on lees, so it was not too austere as his wines can be sometimes. Went well with food.

  • NV Pertois-Moriset Champagne L'Assemblage Brut 88 Points

    France, Champagne

50% PN, 50% Chardonnay. Interesting that some said this was rich while others said that this was bland and crisp, this bottle definitely belonged to the latter. Rather lean and uninteresting, first time trying this producer and probably won't seek more out despite the attractive price.

  • 2000 Domaine des Lambrays La Rose Du Clos Rosé 90 Points

    France, Burgundy

Wow always a treat to try this unicorn. I thought this was a serious Provence rose from a warmer year like Chateau Simone because of the obvious tannins. Wouldn't have guessed its age, an intellectual curiosity that I enjoyed but not the most pleasurable wine.

  • 2004 Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Leftovers from lunch from a friend. Wonderful old-school white Burgundy with impressive depth and length. Creamy lactic note but with precision and minerality.

  • 2010 Alzinger Riesling Smaragd Loibenberg 93 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

Can only echo the previous note that was absolutely spot on. Surprisingly this was more restrained than the '11 which I thought was a little heavy, this had much better acidity and salinity together with a lovely round mouthfeel. Brilliant wine.

  • 1992 Château Meyney 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe

Wanted to bring a birth year wine for my high-school classmates. Classic Cordier funk, fruit still going strong for a weaker year but wouldn't hold onto this for much longer as the pyrazine note might dominate soon.

  • 2017 Antoine Sanzay Saumur-Champigny 88 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

Agree that this had a lovely nose but palate was a little overripe for me, I thought this was a modern Rhone at first until the pyrazines notes emerged. Think can go straight for the Poyeux.

  • 2009 Château Climens 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

Consistent with my previous impressions. Predominantly honey and apricot notes with a little marmalade, very good pairing with desserts.
