  • 2023 Château Le Puy Rose-Marie 88 Points

    France, Vin de France

    First time trying a rose from Bordeaux! Bouquet really charming, with strawberries, raspberries and bayberries. Palate has this nice mineral and acid spine but palate was a bit awkward for me.

  • 2016 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet

    Absolutely adore Bernard Moreau and this was no slouch. While these wines are usually creamy and oaky when young, they develop this charm as they get older, really fleshing out and coming into its own. Bouquet is round and fleshy with lychee, longan, jasmine flowers, nashi pear and lime. Palate is pretty round and concentrated, lacked a bit of finesse and concentration but honestly for a village, can’t really ask for more!

  • 2012 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année Rosé 94 Points

    France, Champagne

    Thought this would need a longer time to come around but drinking so gorgeously today. Oxidative bouquet showing roses, red apples, strawberries and lavender. Palate is so open and opulent, showing off its beauty no matter the perspective and angles that one looks at it from. Great opening drink!

  • 2013 Puchang Cabernet Sauvignon 92 Points

    China, Xinjiang

    First time trying this. I don’t really have much experience with Chinese wines and in my limited experience, the ones I’ve tried tend to be too extracted, give this facade of polish but the underlying tends to be a little disjointed.
    This was however a really good showing - bouquet shows sage, chocolate, malt, black plums, licorice and violets while palate has quite nice finesse and balance here. This isn’t a very layered wine but I completely enjoyed and was enthralled with the level of elegance and silkiness.

  • 1983 Château Margaux 97 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    Magnum. First time trying this legendary vintage and what a showing this was. Floral and aromatic bouquet with tons of toasted spices like cardamom, cloves and aniseed, with black plums, cherries, sadle, smoke and sandalwood on the back of the bouquet. Palate is still exceedingly fresh and youthful, with layers and layers of fruit unfurling with time - this still has a long road (given I had this in magnum) and would never have put this in the 80s, with this drinking easily 15-20 years younger than what it’s showing.

  • 2002 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

    Double magnum. Ripe and fruit forward bouquet showing plenty of youthful exuberance! Morello cherries, mulberries, blueberries, aniseed, macerated plums and sadle fill the bouquet in ripe and fruit forward fashion. Palate is sturdy and robust with plenty of power and concentration, very finessed and nuanced though in this double magnum format, aging glacially and definitely would go the distance (10-20) years easily!

  • 2000 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    Double magnum. This is in a really good spot today, finely balanced between juicy plummy fruit and a softening and silky palate. Classic bouquet with sweet plums, raisins, sadle, savory fat and cedar. Palate very fresh, due to large format, and also very nuanced and silky - showing great!

  • 2012 Louis Jadot Clos Saint-Denis 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru

    Magnum. Definitely too early to be drinking this - superb structure and concentration but just overwhelmed with ripe fruit at this stage, probably doesn’t help with domaine style and ripe vintage but this definitely needs 10-15 years to soften to which I would expect a much better showing.
