  • 2015 Weingut Ökonomierat Rebholz Birkweiler Kastanienbusch Riesling Großes Gewächs 93 Points

    Tasted blind. Wine opened a couple of hours before.
    Clear, medium golden color. Youthful-developing nose with hints of fine lime and crushed stones.
    On the palate round with lots of ripe fruit, fine lime notes and a "dark" mineral core. Wonderful structure and length. And there is more to come over the next years. 93-94

  • 2015 St. Antony Niersteiner Pettenthal Riesling Großes Gewächs 89 Points

    Clear, medium deep color. Nose with some noticeable botrytis flavors: spices, honey, anise. Weird.
    On the palate power, typical zesty notes from the red slope, but also anise and spices. Noticeable residual sugar. Medium length. 88-89

    Clear, pale golden color. Beautiful fine, elegant and mineral nose.
    This is a beautiful Nonnenberg in the making with lots of ripe fruit, lime and a wonderful mineral core. Great tension and energy, very elegant and juicy and not as broad as other wines of this warm vintage. Long, fruity finish. Potential for another decade. 94+

  • 2015 Peter Jakob Kühn Riesling Schlehdorn 94 Points

    Clear, medium deep golden color. First impression after first sniff: Kühn! Intense, complex botrytis driven nose: Acacia, honey, spices, floral notes. Fully different from all other wines in the tasting.
    On the palate super ripe fruit, noticeable extract and residual sugar, very concentrated, expressive and bold. Powerful and long. If you like this style, you could say this is really a great Riesling. For me it is a bit too much of everything, but I admit it is really unique and complex. 94

  • 2015 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 95 Points

    Tasted blind. Wine opened a couple of hours before.
    Clear, pale goden color. Elegant, rather pronounced nose with fine lime, floral notes, exotic fruit, fresh herbs and limestone. Deep and complex.
    On the palate you can feel the warmth and power of the vintage, but Keller balanced it beautiful. The Hubacker is still on the elegant side with some loverly ripe exotic fruit and refreshing flavors of nettles, gooseberry and fine zesty bitter notes. Very mineral, beautiful tension and energy. Long and fruity finish. Slowly reaching its peak. 94-95

  • 2015 Wittmann Westhofener Morstein Riesling Großes Gewächs 93 Points

    Tasted blind. Wine opened a couple of hours before.
    Clear, medium golden color. Nose is a bit restrained, with time and air it unfolded a bit and showed classic Morstein smokiness.
    On the palate a bit restrained and not yet as open as the Hubacker. Smoky notes, beautiful mineral core, nice texture and grip, very precise. Long and zesty finish. Needs 2-3+ years to unfold. 93++

  • 2015 Schloss Vollrads Schlossberg Riesling Großes Gewächs 89 Points

    Clear, pale golden color (screw cap). Expressive nose, very round with lots of sweet fruit, but not overly complex.
    On the palate also very round, sweet fruit, balanced, medium length. A crowd pleaser in the best sense.

  • 2015 Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Forster Kirchenstück Riesling 92 Points

    Tasted blind. Wine opened a couple of hours before.
    First bottle was a bit disappointing, but it had a slight TCA stain. Our generous host opened another bottle, which was TCA free, but also not super convincing for me. But hey, maybe time will do magic here as well?
    It is for sure fine and elegant, but lacks the depth and density and the tension of the best Kirchenstück vintages. Lets see in 5 years time, what happens. 92-93 (++ as wishful thinking)

    Clear, pale golden color. Fine and elegant nose, surprisingly without the dominant oak flavors. On the palate very powerful, great extract, nice tension, probably a bit broad. This night a bit more open and approachable compared to Bürklins Kirchenstück, but also not 100% convincing for this great terroir. 92-93

    Clear, lemon green color. Typical Fröhlich reduction and sulphur nose, mixed with some lime juicy and floral notes. Super fresh and dense.
    On the palate very precise, racy acidity, lots of lime, wonderful mineral core, cool, deep and dense with great tension and energy. Long and fruity finish. Great potential. 94+

    One of the surprises of the evening. Clear, pale golden color. Deep, smoky and slightly reductive nose with lots of ripe stone fruit.
    Hard to detect as a Saar Riesling, the ripe, warm fruit suits the wine beautifully. Lean, precise, slight residual sugar. Good balance, long fruity finish. Full peak, makes super fun! 93

  • 2015 Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese *** (White Capsule) 93 Points

    Tasted blind. Wine opened a couple of hours before.
    Clear, medium golden color. Molitor typical ripe and bold nose with some ripe pineapple and candied fruit.
    On the palate with a beautiful structure and not as bold and broad as expected. Only 12,5% abv. Concentrated, round, balanced and complex with a beautiful texture. Still a bit nervous and unbalanced, but I believe it will settle down with 5+ years in bottle. 93+

    Once again the Aulerde proved to be the hidden gem in Wittmanns collection. Clear, medium golden color. Beautiful nose with lots of ripe, yellow stone fruit. On the palate dense and deep with a high, ripe acidity. Nice mineral core, quite concentrated, medium+ length. 92-93

  • 2015 Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Forster Pechstein Riesling 94 Points

    Tasted blind. Wine opened a couple of hours before.
    Clear, medium golden color. Nose with some lactic notes and in the background ripe, sweet fruit and fresh lemon.
    On the palate the Pechstein typical "dark" mineral core mixed with nice sweet fruit. Wonderful tension and energy. Great structure and precision. Tonight way better than the Kirchenstück and not yet at its full peak. 94-95+

    Clear pale golden color. Pronounced, smoky notes with hints of caramel and still lots of oak.
    On the palate also noticeable oak, sweet fruit, creamy texture. Very nice, good balance, density and depth. Totally different style compared to Bürklin's Pechstein. Long finish. 93-94

    Popped and poured from 1/1 bottle. Thank you to our generous host! First impression was: A bit weird, middle-class Sauternes. I was surprised to see what it was! Somehow in line with my last bottle from 2024. Very well made, but not exiting. This bottle lacked complexity and body for me. Good, but not great. 93
