Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton Blanc 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Nose is still quite oaky, creamy vanilla, some sesame. Medium/full bodied, quite rich and broad, creamy vanilla oak, peachy fruit, touch of spice, lovely bright acidity on the good length, lightly sour finish. Drinking well with nice structural balance, but the oak perhaps a little prominent for me.

  • 2010 Domaine de Montille Beaune 1er Cru Les Aigrots Blanc 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

11/12, under DIAM (10). Attractive floral nose, some lemony fruit, hint of vanilla. Medium bodied, just a touch of breadth but quite linear and showing some nice mineral complexity along with the floral and citrus notes, vibrant acids, lingers nicely on the finish. Perhaps the best showing for this yet.

  • 2010 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru

This had a lovely, transprant, cool fruited nose, red and black berries, notes of soil and mineral. Light/medium bodied, it was pleasingly lean on the palate with cool fruit, vibrant acids and a nice, lightly grippy finish. Excellent, still quite youthful.

  • 2010 Francois Gay Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières 87 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru

This was a little muddy on the nose, with some lactic notes quite prominent alongside the damson and raspberry fruit. Medium bodied, quite plush with soft tannins, quite savoury/gamey with a touch of the farmyard about it, moderate acidity leaving the finish a touch flat. Not for the long term and not really for me, though others liked it more.

Flight 4 (3 Notes)

  • 2010 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanée 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

A touch closed at first, slowly opens to reveal lovely pure, dark cherry and bilberry fruit with a touch of soil and spice. Medium bodied on the palate, at first a touch lean but rounding out with time, lovely pure dark fruit, spice, soil, lovely vibrant acids and a very good length finish. Excellent, starting to hit its stride.

  • 2010 Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

3/6. Richer and more open on the nose, red and black berry fruit with vanilla and even a note of chocolate. Medium/full bodied, this has rounded out now (last bottle Jan 2022) and is quite tactile with soft tannins, ripe fruited but perhaps lacking a bit of purity and definition, fresh acids, good length finish. Enjoyable though and drinking well.

  • 2010 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru

Dark fruited nose, quite rich with some smoke and earth. Medium/full bodied, ripe black fruit, soft tannins, quite mouthfilling and rich but with lovely vibrant contratsing acidity and a touch of grip on the good length finish. Excellent, still young.

Flight 5 (3 Notes)

  • 2010 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Pommard 1er Cru Combes Dessus 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

This has a lovely, arromatic nose - purple fruits (damsons, plums I guess), smoke and earth. Touch of iron. Full bodied, rich yet vibrant on the palate, pure fruited, transparent with notes of soil and rocks, with fine but firm underlying tannin and lovely acidity which comes in and carries a very good length finish with just a touch of meatiness coming through. Lovely wine, drinking well but still lots of life left in this.

  • 2010 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru Champans 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

Slightly reduced at first then quitely spoken yet articulate with strawberry fruit, touch of soil. Medium bodied, elegant with pure red fruit, touch of chalky mineral, really fine tannins, vibrant acidity , good length finish. Drinking but probably with more to come.
