Yellow gold colour. Cut grass and wet stone on the nose. On the palate - full, good acid line up the middle but with comfortable padding around it. Lemon curd, lemon tart, a hint of elderflower maybe? Lovely mouthfeel - glycerine on the tongue with the acid peeking through. A kind of almost honey intensity on the finish. This is lovely - not sure how much further it has to go - i suspect that yesterday’s Mullineux will last for longer - but this is fab.
Remainder of a bottle which had been coravined a couple of weeks ago. Somewhat dark fruited on the nose. On the palate - yes that acid '13 core but the cherry sourness also fades into a kind of blackcurrant sweetness. This is jolly nice - maybe not quite the calibre of the 1947 chenin which preceded it, but I certainly didn't resent moving onto this while Mrs M enjoyed the remains of the earlier bottle.
More chenin called for. More chenin got! There's line here, tautness. Lemon, lemongrass, lemon curd. There's a slight dulling of the acid knife so it doesn't quite hurt, but this isn't as broad as the 2021 1947 we tasted earlier. The impression of freshness here makes me wonder - how long should one keep these wines for? I think i'm going to take *some* of my 2021 1947s out now, but leave a couple to see how they are in 1, 2 years time...
