France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Wow, flinty and intense on first open. With time there was the Ramonet spearmint explosion. I didn't take a lot of notes of ponder this one so deeply, bit it is always a surreal treat.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
"Rustic" is what Mark leads off with. Great acid is my first thought. A nose of soaring cherries increasingly shows a gorgeous, complex dose of stemmy, whole cluster personality. With air this gets darker, more blackberry. This is really old school wine, a throwback, proper Burgundy.
A six hour decant. Textbook Pauillac, textbook Mouton. Deep graphite, lead pencil, some tobacco. Powerful tannins, density off the charts, just lovely. As good a Mouton gets.
2002 Dom Pérignon Champagne Rosé
France, Champagne
Explosive. Strawberry and mineral. Very deep. Just lovely.
