Champagne and Burgundy 'Clos' theme

Introduction
Fun theme with many interesting wines, the unanimous WOTN was the monumental Clos de Tart with the Bruno Clair and Georges Remy as the best of the rest. Also liked the old-school nature of the Jeanniard and Raphet even though they did not have the GC weight.
2018 Georges Remy Champagne Grand Cru Bouzy Les Hauts Clos 93 Points
France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
902 bottles. 100% Pinot Noir, zero dosage. Disgorged Jan 2024. Since it was a Clos theme I thought (good) Prevost because of the ripe but slightly austere fruit. Rich but not overly oxidative, very well-balanced with good weight and acidity as usual from this producer. Developed a lovely salinity with air.

A little oaky that made it seem quite developed, the person who brought it said there was a distinctive smell to the producer so I said Ramonet because there was an obvious mint note (but not a very good one). Lacked acidity and definitely advanced though, would advise drinking up if you have any.

Most including myself thought Meursault, in fact I went for Boillot Clos de la Mouchere so go figure.. Attractive, opulent citrus fruit with some reduction, good freshness. High alcohol so I thought this was from a warm year like '18.

Some popcorn notes on the nose with a slightly distracting caramel-like sweetness on the palate, but settled down to reveal good concentration (albeit without much complexity).

2017 Gérard Raphet Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 92 Points

Old-school with some rusticity and tart cherry notes, guessed a '14 CdB but when revealed to be a CdN it had to be Gevrey. Quite a mid-weight GC so didn't think GC at first, but liked the classic nature of this with a good balance between elegance and savoury elements.

Very pretty with attractive, bright red fruit that I thought Chambolle at first. Liked the acidity and elegance on this but with air it was overshadowed by the Clos de Tart alongside. Another honest, no-frills Burgundy similar to the Raphet that came before that was enjoyable but did not quite have the GC weight.

Took time to get going but when it did this was clearly the WOTN. Brilliant intensity and still so youthful that I guessed 2016. Some guessed Lambrays but I was very sure that this wasn't as it had the weight and presence that Lambrays often lacks. Full of velvety spice and a fantastic mouth coating finish, a very complete wine.

My contribution. Probably the best nose of the night but this suffered from being served after the monumental Clos de Tart as palate didn't have the same weight. Arthur Clair said when we visited that this was probably the most Chambolle-like of all their holdings and it's easy to see why; delicate red fruit with some earthy, mineral undertones. Wonderful restraint and acidity. My second favourite on the night.

My extra, first time trying this producer after buying a few bottles. Way too primary with incoherent sweet fruit but I don't think the soupy nature will ever go away. Like the others at the table, I read good things about this producer so we were all disappointed when it was revealed.

2008 Domaine Jean Grivot Clos Vougeot 90 Points

Similar to previous impressions, guessed as a masculine Chambolle and went for a high acid year like '08 or '13. Unlike the previous bottle the acidity became more prominent with air, a rather monotonous, dark-fruited wine.

Wow no way that this is a Burgundy, more similar to a (bad) Nebbiolo with obtrusive tannins or even Merlot with the overly sweet fruit. This wine had no redeeming qualities.
