A visit and tasting at Villa Bucci

This estate started in 1983 and makes wine from 100% estate fruit, they have 5 vineyards with differing age, altitudes and exposure. they started organics in the 90's and were certified in 1998. They ferment is steel and use old slavonian oak botte for some wines to age in. Most of the output is the classico of around 100k bottles and 40k bottles of their other wines depending on vintage. The export their wines widely.

  This wine is protected from oxygen and has no time on skins, made from free run juice. Its light and elegant with a slightly grassy nose. apple and stone fruits on the palate with cleansing citrus, nicely balance and a decent finish, will age for 2-3 years

• 2020 Bucci Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva Classico Villa Bucci

  This is aged in old slavonian oak botte with 1.5 years in botte and then 1 year in bottle. This is more complex and intense than the regular wine with camomile and stone fruits on the noce and yellow plum and grapefruit on the palate which has some good texture and a little tannin, there's strong acidity and a long finish. it will age for 10-15+ years

• 2021 Bucci Rosso Piceno Tenuta Pongelli S. Fortunato

  Bucci have 5 hectares of red grapes with 1 vineyard on the slopes and others on the floor. i think this has 50% of Montepulciano from Abruzzo and 50% sangiovese from Emilia-Romagna all planted on white terroir at high altitude. 1 year in oak and 6 months in bottle. A bright a fresh nose with red cherry fruit and some violets, elegant and fresh with soft tannins and easy to drink. Its possible to drink this with fish dishes

• 2020 Bucci Rosso Piceno Villa Bucci

  This wine is composed of 70% Montepulciano and 30% Sangiovese with an average age of 50 years. The fruit is treated gently to preserve elegence. the nose is fairly powerful with cherry and plum fruit. Strong legs, the tannins are present but are fine and not rustic. this is a very tasty red wine

A lovely set of wines at this address, rightly the focus is on the whites but the reds were a very pleasant surprise and well made with love. we drank a Villa Bucci Reserva from 2005 later in the trip which was stunning and showed that cuvee can really last and develop wonderfully
Sadly the estate was sold a short while after we visited.
