Mostly 2020 base, this was a little more austere than the '21 base that I opened last month. Also a little natty on the nose, perhaps in an awkward phase.
From vineyards near Puligny. Preferred this to the Femelottes that I tried previously, apparently this was picked four days earlier and it showed. Better balance and didn't feel too heavy unlike the Femelottes, a seriously crafted Bourgogne without the feeling that it was overmade.
France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie
Surprisingly ripe for a cooler year and creamier than I expected from this producer. Sweetness was slightly distracting despite the usual salinity being present.
Similar to previous impressions, approachable dark cherry and cranberry fruit with a good acidic backbone. More autumnal notes compared to the previous bottle, so maybe time to drink up.
Similar to previous impressions with a vibrant, pretty dark red fruit core, but the pyrazine notes became more pronounced with air instead of dissipating
Still very youthful for its age, a little polished but still retaining the classic northern Rhone sauvage. Impressively built and will last for a long time.
Barbera that was carbonically macerated. High alcohol of the grape showed but wasn't excessive, overall was clean despite some VA on the nose. Not usually my style but enjoyed the energy and lift on this even though it was dark-fruited in nature.
Similar to previous impressions, a deep, complex nose that only age could bring but fruit on the palate was slightly fading. Still a great QPR and an example of how these less-heralded Bordeaux can age superbly.
Surprisingly this drank much better than the '09 a couple of weeks ago, perhaps this wine dialled back on the Parker trend of the '00s and the wine was much better for it. Warm vintage was well-managed with no stewed fruits (but developed some liquorice notes with air). Still quite youthful with the potential to develop more complexity.

Seriously impressive weight for the price, good freshness to the citrus fruit despite the viscosity. Lovely as always from this producer.

Almost like a barrel sample in appearance and on the palate, still very primary and fruit-forward without much development.

A little too much funk on the nose, palate was also a little thin despite the tannins still being prominent. Would drink up.
