Long overdue catch-up with Alex in Bangkok over some great food and wines at Verlan (fantastic list!). Also was a happy coincidence that there were a couple of other wine nerds at the next table and we exchanged some wines.
2016 Emmanuel Brochet Champagne Les Hauts Meuniers 94 Points
France, Champagne
1509 bottles produced, bought off the list at Verlan. Quite vinous unlike some other moussey Brochets that I've encountered, interestingly this showed very similarly to the '17 Les Hautes Vignes that I had the other day. Not much Meunier characteristics showing as it was more citrus fruit dominated, some oxidative and spice notes that added complexity. Both intellectual and pleasurable.

2023 Domaine Jaeger-Defaix Rully 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Rully 1er Cru
Guessed this to be a '21 Gevrey made in a similar vein to Fourrier. Bright and airy cherry fruit, enticing lift with refined tannins. First time trying this producer and very impressed.

2020 Domaine Buisson-Battault Pommard Les Combes 88 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard
Dense, dark fruit with some rusticity so wasn't difficult to get to '20 CdB but unfortunately the server unveiled the wine before I got further. Not very expressive initially but gained some elegance with air, but doubt this will turn into a swan even with more cellar time.

1994 Domaine Philippe Charlopin Chambertin 94 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
Generously shared by a Japanese importer based in BKK at the next table. Heard mixed reviews about this producer but wow this was a stunning bottle especially for a weak vintage. Autumnal fruit with resolved tannins and some Gevrey iron notes; the powerful Chambertin structure was still holding everything in place. Very iron fist in a velvet glove despite the producer's reputation for making burly wines, wished I had more than a glass.
