Introduction

BYO at NOTK where everybody had to bring an old Champage (>15 years)

  • 2008 Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru Brut Millésimé 96 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

This required half an hour or so to open up, but once it did! What an elegant powerhouse. Refined and precise. Spices, brioche, nutty, shades of lemon. Amazing palate. 95-96

  • 2008 Dom Pérignon Champagne Rosé 94 Points

    France, Champagne

High intensity on the nose. Reductive, rose petals, savoury. Very good, but it doesn’t have layers of complexity; what you smell is what you get. High acidity, long finish

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

  • 1995 Pol Roger Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 93 Points

    France, Champagne

This was probably a slightly off bottle as I see other bottles on CT perform very well. Medium+ intensity on the nose with caramel, peach, apricot, mushroom. Medium+ acidity, long finish.

  • 1985 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Cuvée Charlie 98 Points

    France, Champagne

This was the best Champagne I ever had and among my top 3 wines ever I think. The complexity is just outright amazing, but combined with a certain youthfulness and enormous drinkability. This came from a cellar where it was stored since release and showed no signs of tiredness. High intensity on the nose with a nice reductiveness, salinity, fish, brioche, firestone, mushroom and my favorite Champage aroma: freshly ground grain. High acidity and a never ending finish. 97-98

What a marvelous wine! Degorgement in 2000 after 15 year sur lie.

  • 2022 Haja Cortezia Wines Malvasia Colares 92 Points

    Portugal, Lisboa, Colares

Very good white wine from Portugal. High intensity on the nose. Reductive and I was sure there was a significant amount of new oak, but apparently there is none. Leesy, petrol. High acidity, long finish. 91-92

  • 2022 Guilbert Gillet Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Planchots du Nord 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune

Too young at the moment; not ready as the new wood shows too much at this stage. For me a bit over the top for Pinot Noir with eucalyptus, coffee, licorice, tobacco. Medium+ acidity, medium tannins, long finish. 90-91

  • 1995 Robert Ampeau & Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

What a wine! I love these aged white Ampeau’s! Mega complex, fresh and very drinkable. Apricot, mushroom, smokey, firestone, caramel. High acidity, long finish
