Typical 2005 in that it needs time. The elegance is unmistakable but the magic is still down the road - hopefully this will be one of the 2005s that will blossom at some point.

TN: The nose was reserved, but the palate made up for it with sweet, bright red berries, herbs, and a dusting of mint. The toasty notes added some complexity. This still needs time to fully soften and deepen, but it has the goods. 93pts today with more in the tank.

That said, I do think the more recent vintages have an edge, showing more precision and finesse compared to these mostly late 2000s examples we tasted. TN: Slow to show on the nose and should have been decanted. But on the palate, fireworks. Pure Rousseau-esque strawberries, seductive spice and a stony mineral lift. The structural frame is textbook La Tâche, with cashmere tannins, bright acidity and a near-perfect balance. Not the deepest vintage, but the most complete red in the lineup.

TN: The substance is all there, but still in hiding. Closed on the nose and palate, though with time and oxygen, layers began to unfold. Intriguing potential but not there yet. A brooding RC that whispered its greatness. 92 to 93pts today with clear upside.

TN: Muted nose. On the palate, this was all edges and angles. A bit too firm, not enough sweetness or charm to smooth things out. Some red fruit came through with air but lacked depth. Would benefit from a long decant, but uncertain whether it has enough fruit to blossom with age. A typical 2005 that will never get around?

TN: Still restrained aromatically, showing toast and stems more than fruit. On the palate, darker berries, spice and minerality start to emerge. Precision is there, but the wine is still clenched. Typical 2005 in that it needs time. The elegance is unmistakable but the magic is still down the road - hopefully this will be one of the 2005s that will blossom at some point.

TN: One of the stars of the lineup. The depth and concentration here are impressive, a full symphony of fruit, mineral, herbs, toast and meaty hints. Still youthfully firm, but the substance is undeniable. Already a beauty, though it needs a few more years to hit full stride. 94 to 95pts today.

TN: Expressive nose and palate, with ripe dark red fruit, spice, mint, toast and some vegetal notes. Concentrated and sensuous, a wine of luxurious depth and classic Richebourg intensity. The structural frame is in place, but it will need time to soften. Drinking well now but destined for greater things.

TN: Flinty and citrus-driven nose, beautifully precise. Palate follows suit with stone fruit and a toasted sesame note emerging with time. Coche-like intensity in a sleek, focused frame. Elegant, deep and endlessly drinkable. A thrilling young white Burgundy.

TN: The aromatics were extraordinary, a spellbinding mix of roasted sesame, citrus, quince, baked apple and herbs. But sadly, there was a touch of hay and premox on the nose that marred the experience. Ignoring that, this was a 98pt palate with perfect maturity and gravitas. Still, a wine of undeniable class.
