Introduction

Having missed out in 2024, great to be back at the second longest running show in town amongst Wine Pages' offlines - for one year only branded as "Jadot's Feast". Bar a flawed 2007 and a pair of 2011s that were not at the very top of their games we were very lucky. Really enjoyed our line up.

Flight 1 - On arrival (1 Note)

  • NV Laherte Frères Champagne Rosé de Saignée Extra Brut Les Beaudiers 90 Points

    France, Champagne

100% Pinot Meunier, disgorged December 2023, with fruit from Chavrot-Courcourt with parcels planted in 1953, 1958 and 1965. Lovely nose that starts with wild strawberry and develops a cherry sorbet character with air. After an hour in the glass there are also hints of watermelon, tart apricot and lime zest. The palate has some sourdough crumb bass notes with rose petal, strawberry and lime top notes. Lovely length with some rhubarb and lemon juice notes on the finish. A great discovery from a producer whose other wines I've really enjoyed.

Flight 2 - Gougères and Cheddar (2 Notes)

  • 2017 Louis Jadot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Guettes Blanc Domaine Gagey 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru

Consistent with previous bottles, this has a lovely nose with confit lemons, some toasted pine nut and a creamy lime posset character. Palate has very well judged acids from front to back and a cracking texture. On entry there are more citrussy notes with a grapefruit pith character and a touch of wheat cracker. Something savoury joins the fray on the mid-palate; reminds me of chicken roasting juices. Finish has a classy lick of lime oil. Really good drop.

  • 2020 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Youthful and a tad reticent compared with its flight mate. Some lemon on chamomile notes on the nose with some orange Jelly Tot. Palate has a dilute lime cordial quality with some lime pith building with air. Lovely twist of pepper on the finish. Needs time in the cellar.

Flight 3 - Fresh Pasta, Oyster Mushrooms, Mushroom Velouté (2 Notes)

  • 1999 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Lots going on on the nose here, a little more sauvage that its younger flight mate from T(h)eurons. Some damson fruit, cassis with hints of leather and hoisin in the margins. Also some roasted chestnut sweetness. With air there's a touch of iron too. Palate also very classy opening with plenty of red fruits and some Christmas potpourri bowl. Mid palate has rosehips and a touch of earth. The finish is dry and spicy with a touch of cherry some sesame cracker. Lovely stuff.

  • 2005 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Theurons Domaine Gagey 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

More youthful and darker than the 1999 Clos des Couchereaux it's served with. There is a gorgeous damson and blueberry quality to the nose with a hint of cinder and with air Biscoff crumb. Palate has a lovely energy to it More dark fruits on entry, a touch of Lapsang souchong tea on the mid palate and some green bell pepper joining the plum fruit on the finish. Really like this as well.

Flight 4 - Duck Breast, Squash, Red Wine Jus (2 Notes)

  • 2011 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

Nose opens out with some raspberry fruit and white flowers, with air a rosehip tartness comes to the fore with hints of grenadine cordial and joss stick ash in the margins. Palate also leads out with that rosehip tartness, mid palate a little understated but some coffee grounds and plum fruit develop with time. Finish has some hints of cranberry.

  • 2011 Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Domaine Louis Jadot 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Deep, blue fruited nose. A touch of ink with some rosehips, cinder and a touch of Earl Grey sorbet as well. Palate slow out of the blocks and consistently held back by some robust tannins. Some Assam tea tannins build through the mid palate and there is some cassis on the finish. Suspect another 5-10 years would see this kick on.

Flight 5 - Slow Cooked Beef, Bourgignon Style (3 Notes)

  • 1997 Louis Jadot Bonnes Mares Flawed

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

Properly corked. Generously a back up was offered in its place.

  • 1996 Louis Jadot Ruchottes-Chambertin 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Generously opened backup in place of a corked 1997 Bonnes Mares. Popped and poured. Wow this is gorgeous. Rich nose with smoky damsons and ginger at the core. Some citrus notes in the margins (blood orange?) and some Biscoff crumb too. Just some hints of vanilla oak. Palate has real depth and focus; red fruits on entry and with some Christmas spice, these build through the mid palate with the à point acids providing perfect support. There is just a touch of walnut sponge on the finish. So classy.

  • 2003 Louis Jadot Bonnes Mares 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

This is great. Lots going on here on the nose; smoky fruits, some chopped date alongside the damsons. A hint of mushroom duxelles richness as well. With air a classy beef pho character emerges. Oxtail. Palate is rich and long dark fruits on entry with a couple of ppm of soy sauce. A damson character builds through the mid palate with some star anise. A hint of Assam tea tannin joins the fray on the finish. What a treat.

Flight 6 - Comté and Chablis (washed Époisse-a-like cheese) (3 Notes)

  • 2006 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

Enjoy this much more than the 2011 served earlier in the evening. Nose has a meaty core with some sautéed shallots and a hint of white chocolate coated blueberry in the margins, a touch of lift which adds to the whole. Palate is tight and dark fruited, takes a while to relax but does so with air. Fruit and acids perfectly complementing each other. Has a long time ahead of it.

  • 2006 Louis Jadot Griotte-Chambertin 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru

Incense on the nose here initially. Cherry fruit and earth develop with time. Hints of perfumed grenadine too with air. Palate is long and soil toned, redcurrant and Rooibos tea building through the mid palate to the finish. Very classy indeed.

  • 2001 Louis Jadot Chambertin 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Double decanted 6 hours before service due to a cork failure. Wow. What a wine here. Dark chocolate and damsons intertwine beautifully at the core of this on the nose. Around there are hints of peppermint and orange oil. Some smoky sweet chestnuts with air. Palate is a tour de force with spicy dark fruits to the fore on entry. The mid palate sees a layer of pretty red fruits emerge as well. The finish which goes on for ever sees a few ppm of dulce de leche sweetness in the margins. Outstanding wine.

Closing

Huge thanks to Simon G for organising this and generously sending his wine to the restaurant although he was unable to attend with ill heath. Also thanks to my table mates for their great company and generous vinous contributions - we had some truly outstanding wines. The team at Noizé also did us proud.
