Disgorged 2017. A blend of 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay from proprietary vineyards, 90% Grand and Premier cru, non malo, dosage 9 g/l. In a beautiful place right now, retains lots of youthful minerally energy and blends it with complex post-disgorgement evolution. The dosage is perfectly integrated and no doubt contributes to the overall feeling of elegant richness. Very fine.
From single vineyards in the village of Eppan in Alto Adige, 450-550 metres a.s.l., gravel and limestone soils, fermentation and ageing on the fine lees in barriques for 12 months followed by another 8 months in inox. Top of the range and handsomely repaying all the care lavished on it. Cool and stylish Chardonnay, precise and energetic, with elegant generosity of flavours.
Made with 100% Chardonnay, 33 year old vines planted on a cool granitic site in Stellenbosch Kloof, fermented and aged for nine months on the lees in French oak (Damy, Chassin, Rousseau, 77% new, 23% second fill), partial malo, with regular 'barrel rolling' rather than bâtonnage. A very complete Chardonnay, good body and well-developed flavours balanced by minerally energy and refreshing acidity (TA 6.2 gr/l), zesty citrus and oak, hint of butter, lovely bitters. Should develop well for 3-5 years.
Cabinetabfüllung der Gräflich von Schönborn'schen Kellerei. Acquired at auction in 2024. Level 2 cm below the (short) capsule. Good colour, structurally intact, maderised flavours. It's quite sherry-like, but not in an unpleasant way at all, very nice as a drink.
This continues to improve. Full-blooded but elegant, still defined by rich and ripe, black fruit, beautifully formed, life-sustaining tannins, excellent flavours and length. Gorgeous wine with a great future.

Identical to my previous note. A rather fabulous Chianti Classico from this great vintage, punching well above its weight.

Classic Brunello in a slightly old-fashioned mould, slender style, tannins have mellowed, has developed well.
