Introduction

all wines served double blind with homemade Bolognese sauce, fresh fettucine and garlic bread. Started with 2 wines I brought from my trip to Slovenia and Croatia (1 from each).

Flight 1 - Starter White from Croatia (1 Note)

    Croatia, Dalmatia, Srednja i južna Dalmacija, Korčula

    Minerality, salinity, lemon, matchstick, cantaloupe and almond on the nose. Healthy acidity on the palate. Such an interesting wine. Really enjoyed this. Bought this in Croatia!

    Disappointing finish, but the competition was stiff. Some oak dark fruits and minerals on the nose. Some grainy tannins on a packed finish. Group's 5/5, my 5/5

  • 2018 Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Sauvignon 95 Points

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Franschhoek Valley

    Mixture of red and darker fruits, minerals and a touch of oak on the nose. Smooth as silk on the palate. The one nick on this wine would be that the finish not as long as the other in the tasting, but the mouth feel was so good. Group's 2/6, my 3/6. Wine served double blind.

  • 2002 Penfolds Grange 97 Points

    First words out of my mouth, holy shit this is a steam roller. Over time this just kept getting better and better over the course of the evening. Dark fruits, tilting towards blackberry, some blueberry, faint smoke and minerals on the nose. Massive on the palate, but in proportion to all the pieces. Tannin, fruit and acid all in harmony. Just an incredible experience. 3rd time having this wine and it is special. The groups 1/5 and my 1/5 (served double blind).

  • 2016 Château Canon-la-Gaffelière 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

    Blackberry, dark cassis, menthol, some tobacco, red fruits (raspberry) and black raspberry on the nose. Some grainy tannins to start that smoothed out as is aerated longer. Delish! Groups tied for 3/5, my 3/5. Served double blind.
