2002 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut 94 Points
France, Champagne
Pale, slightly dull gold. Nicely richly nose. Buttery brioche with just a hint of coffee cream. Nicely richly nose and rounded, lacking a little energy on the finish. Seems to be my first encounter with the 02, but based on this bottle it’s at to a little over peak, and time to drink bottles up. ****1/2

2004 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 94 Points
France, Champagne
Just a hint of green to the mid straw. Classic reductive, slightly smoky, flinty nose. Elegant and poised on the attack and through to the palate. 04 Comtes is getting steadily better and better, currently ****1/2 but with 5* potential when the reduction resolves a little more. A class act in the making.
