2001 Celler de Capçanes Montsant Cabrida 92 Points

Worn velvet, beautiful balance, perfect weight for dinner. Cherry pits and fall spices, nice acidity, charcoal, cheddar, tobacco. Succeeded across the board with dinner, from the slow bacon-roast chicken, to the balsamic potato wedges, and even to the espresso chocolate, dried apricot, and walnuts for dessert. Interestingly, this '01 either sloped downward over a few hours, or does not shine as well when no longer paired with food. The '04 was the opposite.

Velvetty blueberry; balanced and pleasurable with a brilliant melodic finish. Under the vibrancy are quiet layers of minerals and sweet plants. Hotter than the '01, this '04 kept getting better over several hours and, though it wasn't quite as natural with dinner, it was better than the '01 once the food was out of the picture.
