• 2007 Gaja Langhe Nebbiolo Sorì Tildìn

  This was more structured than I was expecting. Paired incredibly well with the meaty pasta dishes, especially the one with Italian sausage. Really good!

• 2010 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello Barolo Monprivato

  Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

  This is youthful and will benefit from more time in the cellar. Despite its youth and structure, it is extremely well made and will reward the patient wine collector. Give this 3-5 more years to mellow out or give it a long decant and serve with food.

• 2004 Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

  Served from a 3L bottle. The group was divided on this wine, but I really enjoyed it because it is fully mature, easy drinking and paired nicely with a variety of Italian dishes. I imagine if it were served from a 750ml bottle, it might be past its prime.

  Honestly, we drank this so fast, I didn't have time to make much of a note on it. However, I do recall it being in a good spot to drink now.

• 2006 Fattoria Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino

  This is drinking in a beautiful spot right now. One of the best wines of the night. It contains everything I love about Brunello. If you have some of these in your cellar, it is worth checking in on it by popping a cork.

• 2006 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia

  Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri, Bolgheri Sassicaia

  Double decanted at home, 2 hours before consuming. This is a great vintage of Sassicaia and was more youthful than when I last tasted it back in 2019. Very much reminds me of a left bank Bordeaux in many ways, but it has the structure of a Tuscan wine. I will check back in on this with another 5 years of age.

• 2019 Azienda Agricola San Giuseppe Brunello di Montalcino Stella di Campalto Bacia

  Wow! This is a tightly wound ball of energy. Incredible core of Sangiovese sour cherry fruit with a firm backbone. I would give this another 5 years of age and I bet it will develop into a beauty.

• 2015 Dominique Laurent Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaumonts Vieilles Vignes

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

  Darn. I thought I was opening the village of this wine and then I saw I grabbed the 1er Cru bottle from the cellar. Of all the wines we had tonight, this was my favorite. Of course, this could also be that my palate is loving some Vosne Burgundy right now. This is a little sappy, but dang is it delicious and drinking great straight out of the bottle. Unfortunately, it was my last one of these in the cellar.
