Introduction

Dinner with Jeremy and the Roots Fund team to raise funds for the "It was All a Dream Scholarship." All Dujac wines from the domaine library.

Flight 1 - While Gathering (1 Note)

Flight 2 - Caviar potato salad (1 Note)

  • 2013 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut 94 Points

    France, Champagne

Magnum. More serious and concentrated than the bottles of 15 side-by-side. Concentrated orchard fruit with toasted nuts, brioche and a hint of citrus oil in the finish. I think this is better than the '15 but perhaps a little less overt at this stage. Upside from here.

Flight 3 - Black truffle agnolotti (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Domaine Dujac Morey-Saint-Denis 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey-Saint-Denis

Magnum. Wide open and full nose of red and black cherry, spice and whole cluster. The palate is round and supple with perhaps a bit less punch than the nose. Delicious and in the middle of a peak window.

  • 2017 Domaine Dujac Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

Full nose has a lot going on with black cherry, meat spice and whole cluster. Palate has round, plush fruit that has 1er+ concentration. Good structure that still needs time but is proportional the fruit. All in harmony and drinking nicely but this should improve with age. Per Jeremy, the last "normal" vintage after a run of vintages with extreme (solar levels of heat, hail, etc.) challenges - and it shows in the completeness and confidence of the wine.

Flight 4 - Madai, dirty rice and ham hock (2 Notes)

  • 2008 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Gorgeous full, intense aromas of red and black cherry, toasted herbs, emerging earth, spice and whole cluster. The palate has excellent concentration of youthful fruit. Harmonious acids give lift but otherwise go unnoticed. Still in an early peak drinking window.

  • 1995 Domaine Dujac Bonnes Mares 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

Magnum. Lifted, full aromas of black cherry, earth and intense whole cluster. The palate is both serious and now approachable. Structure still present but feels fine and well-integrated with the fruit. Solidly at peak.

Flight 5 - A-5 miyazaki wagyu, bérnaise and maitake (2 Notes)

  • 1996 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Wow, gorgeous nose that beams with mature red fruit and intense whole cluster. Fruit is both fresh and dried in nature with tannins that are fine and acidity that is juicy and fresh. A mature CdlR that is cruising along in a peak drinking window.

  • 2003 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

Downright delicious and handled the vintage well, though clearly there is more ripeness (in fruit flavor profile and mouthfeel). Enough freshness to keep the bold, ripe fruit from being overbearing. A nice foil for A-5 miyazaki wagyu.

Flight 6 - Chef's selection of cheeses (1 Note)

  • 2014 Domaine Dujac Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Magnum. Wow, this is so fresh and youthful and downright delicious. Orchard fruit, lemon cream and melons with a bit of well-integrated reduction and toast. Loads of bright acidity that matches the fruit. A long life ahead out of this format.

Flight 7 - Night cap (1 Note)

  • 2022 Trailside Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Trailside Vineyard 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford

Night cap following the Dujac wines. This is a restrained and classically proportioned Napa cabernet with the added bonus of 10% whole cluster. Young cab is never easy but this drinks with youthful pleasure and accessibility. Fruit is medium weight and structure is refined. Still early and will take some time to integrate but a lot to like about the philosophy and early results. Upside from here, I suspect.
