Introduction
The annual UGC Bordeaux tasting. This was the 2023 wines. About 100 wines are available for tasting. The event space is spacious and the tasting is first class. Champagne and cheese, charcuterie and bread is available to accompany the wine tasting Representatives from each winery pour the wines and are open to discussing their winery and the wine. The owner of one winery was pouring as was the winery manager of another winery.

Closing
A great evening. Tasted over 30 wines and chatted with a number of winery reps. The 2023 vintage while not the greatest has some very good wines. Most of the wines are a bit lighter than top vintages with abv ranging from 13% to 15%(Valandraud). Interestingly lighter wines still had good flavors. Valandraud really stood out with the biggest wine with the most intense flavors however it need lots of time to develop.
Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande was the star of the evening and was 13% abv. However it is very expensive with Sotheby's, the sponsor of the evening, showing a $200 price tag.
Bordeaux pricing is very arbitrary and varies wildly from winery to winery and vintage to vintage in many instances with no regard to quality.
The snotty wine of the evening went to Beau Sejour Becot as they ran out of wine very early. Their 2022 wine has rave reviews so maybe people flocked to the wine.
Canon La-Gaffeliere was also excellent and the representative was the owner. The wine is predominantly cab. franc and had different flavor profile from the other St Emilion. St Emilion wines fared well in this vintage. Leoville Poyferre continued to produce excellent wine and this year was quite good and 13% abv.
Siran might be a sleeper as it it ready drink, savory and not expensive.
