Tuesday Night Blind Tasting with weekly wine group. Some very nice wines opened and shared.

• 2007 Domenico Clerico Barolo Ciabot Mentin

  Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

  Tasted blind. Sour cherry fruit, dark wood aromas, firm backbone with grippy Nebbiolo tannin, but time has been good to this wine.

• 2013 Bernard Faurie Hermitage

  France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

  Tasted blind. Immediate N. Rhone Syrah notes with the first whiff of the glass. Exotic nose with rich fruit character, youthful & fresh, black as pitch color, with a strong pepper note on the finish. There is a lot going on in the glass.

• 2015 Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

  Tasted blind. Rich red sappy fruit that is slightly reductive, sulfur, orange rind, thick sweet fruit. Almost new world, but very Grivot Vosne also. They have a very distinct style.

• 1975 Château Léoville Las Cases

  France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Julien

  Tasted blind next to the 96 Lynch Bages and 85 Pichon Lalande. Three different decades. Bottom line is that the Leoville was a tad over the hill, the Lynch was tad too young, and the Pichon Lalande was just right. Just like Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. The LLC has touch of funk on the nose with charcoal/smoke, tobacco, leather, and a touch of caramel on the finish. It is fully mature if not just past its peak. Drink up!

• 1996 Château Lynch-Bages

  France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

  Tasted blind next to the 75 Leoville Las Cases and 85 Pichon Lalande. Three different decades. Bottom line is that the Leoville was a tad over the hill, the Lynch was tad too young, and the Pichon Lalande was just right. Just like Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. The Lynch was fresher with a beautiful Pauillac nose, rich and beefy black fruit, and lively finish.

• 1985 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

  France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

  Tasted blind next to the 96 Lynch Bages and 75 Leoville Las Cases. Three different decades. Bottom line is that the Leoville was a tad over the hill, the Lynch was tad too young, and the Pichon Lalande was just right. Just like Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. The Pichon is a beautiful wine and in a really great spot to drink right now. Classic Pauillac nose with cigar wrapper, greenish herbal note, tobacco, touch of salinity on the nose and finish with grainy tannin, but oh so delicious! This is my jam!

• 2016 Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée 3.14

  France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon

  Tasted blind. Red cherry, Pinot Noir nose with a sweet fruity finish, so delicious and easy drinking. If this is less than $100 per bottle, then I want some.

• 2003 Château Troplong Mondot

  France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

  Tasted blind. Oak laden, rich new world'ish' fruit, this wine is blowing something fierce. I thought it was a Spanish aged in American Oak barrels. Not my favorite.

• 1996 Château Montrose

  France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe

  Tasted blind. Intoxicating nose, black and meaty fruit, iron, black licorice, and a touch of menthol. I called it left bank 1990 vintage. This is in a smoking good spot right now.

• 2019 Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino

  Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

  Tasted blind. A very well-made wine, but young and needs time to develop. Right now, it is a glass full of sour cherry with grippy tannin. I thought it was a Nebbiolo but was wrong. I would give it at least 3 more years to start to develop.

• 1996 Château d'Armailhac

  France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

  Tasted blind. Not as good as the other Bordeaux that we had tonight, but it is in a good spot right now. Fully mature, just doesn't pack the same punch as the '96 Montrose or '96 Lynch that we tasted earlier (which is to be expected).
