Dark ruby color, sweet cherry , dusty earth and a little bit of spice on the nose but not very expressive. Bright cherry, little spice, long finish with strong acid, med tannin. This wine had great texture.
According to the Franco Conterno it's from 20-30yr old vines and aged for one year in a blend of french and other new oak barriques.
Light ruby/brick. Lighter than the 2005. Light cherry and spice on the nose. Sexy but light. Cherry, tar, and spice, medium bodied, medium tannin, medium+ acidity. Nice finish but simple.
Franco Conterno said that his nebbiolo gets 18 months of aging in new french barriques. In 2003 he picked two weeks early and doesn't expect it to last more than 10 more years.
Light ruby color, darker than the 2003. Similar nose to the 2003 (cherry and spice) but tighter. Cherry, mineral/dust, medium body, medium+ acid, long finish feeling the acidity and tannin. Liked this better than the 2003 but it is young. 89 at this time to me.
Fairly dark brick. Mushroom, tar, earthy cherries on the nose, medium intensity. Cherries, earthy mushroom, with a dusty finish. Medium bodied, medium+ acidity, medium++ tannins (stronger than 2000, 2001). Nice finish, very food friendly but not a blockbuster. A minute after tasting the wine I get hit with a mushroom flavor, nice.
Franco Conterno tells us his Granbussia's are a blend of his single vineyards and aged for a total of six years, three years in botti, two in stainless steel tanks, and one in bottle. He also mentioned how they use traditional botti but scrape the inside for more oxidization and change out the casks more often than is tradition.
Light ruby/brick color. Bright cherries and a little mint on the nose. More fruit driven wine than the 1999, mostly cherries... Medium+ body, medium+ tannin, medium+ acid. Long finish, but simple wine. Winemaker said it was a more "charming" vintage, not my style.
Ruby colored. Smoky, cherry cola, and funk on the nose. Cherries, funky/earthy palate with a smoky finish. Medium+ body, medium acid, medium+ tannin. Very surprised by this wine. Very unlike the '99 and '00. Not my style of Barolo.
