Flight 1 (11 Notes)

  • 2015 Jérôme Prévost Champagne La Closerie Extra Brut Les Beguines 93 Points

    France, Champagne

Earthy, very lifted white/yellow florals, spice & lemon with some strawberry. Touch nutty & oxy on the palate but it's kept in the background. Lots of texture & acid drive. In a really nice spot now.

  • 2005 Seppelt Riesling Drumborg Vineyard 91 Points

    Australia, Victoria, Western Victoria, Henty

Blind. Lime, apple, pear and floral notes as well. Plenty of acid, primary fruit flavors - still super youthful and a way off being fully developed. Give it another 5+ years!

  • 2001 Jacob's Creek Riesling Steingarten 91 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley

Honeyed, peach, pear, herb & spice. Has roundness to the fruit profile on the palate but is still quite youthful. Really good length, with this flowing well across the palate.

  • 2014 Bodega Catena Zapata Chardonnay White Stones Adrianna Vineyard 89 Points

Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco, Gualtallary

Blind. Golden colour. Honeyed, lemon, stonefruit and pear. Rich and full flavoured on the palate, they've extracted quite a bit from this. Feels older in style but not necessarily my style.

  • 2016 Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières Domaine 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Blind. Smoky, herbal and grassy, with apple, lemon and pear. Quite appealing texture to the palate, sweet at the edges with good length. Not bad but probably needs some time to come around.

  • 2008 Frédéric Lambert Château-Chalon 92 Points

    France, Jura, Château-Chalon

Nutty, oxy notes, yellow florals and smoke. Saline, with plenty of acidity that cleanses the palate. Lovely flow and profile here, the oxy notes are light on but give it more interest.

  • 1978 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru

Blind. Graphite, smoke, cherry, five spice and tomato leaf. Nose has a whole lot going on here. The palate is more straight forward, with limited structure behind it at this point. Medium length and drinking well!

  • 1998 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Tomato, black cherry, blackcurrant and raspberry. Still bright on the palate, with plenty of structure to go along with it. Gets better with some air and the fruit gets to be a bit more forward on the palate.

  • 1975 Château Cheval Blanc 90 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

Smoky, cherry, redcurrant and some herbs and spice (celery salt came to mind). Very delicate on the palate with lithe red fruit and spice. Not all that deep but holding up really nicely.

  • 2004 Bernard Levet Côte-Rôtie Améthyste 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

Bacon, smoke, aniseed and violets. Good depth to the palate, savoury and sweet mix. Good length and style. Much better than my last bottle of this which was a bit tired, but this one was ready to go.

  • 2013 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque 96 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

Pepper & floral, raspberry, blackberry and violets. Dense and deep on the palate. Super youthful, the fruit freshness keeps this from being too full on. Superb with the best yet to come.
