Flight 1 - Whites (4 Notes)

  • 2019 Domaine Roulot Bourgogne-Aligoté 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne-Aligoté

    Oak, vanilla, honey, butter, rounded nose. Earthy tones, forest floor, cellar, mushrooms, hint of wet stones and flint. Acidic. Med+ body, backbone, structured. Complexity. Med finish. Transparent yellow. Captivating, unique nose for a white - the polar opposite of a Valentini - amazing. Very atypical for Aligote.

  • 2020 Paul Pillot Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Charmois Blanc 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru

    Nose hits more backwards. Flinty notes. Similar to Roulot but lighter. Green notes. Transparent yellow/gold. Med+ body. High acidity, medium finish. Structured body. Minerality on the palate.

  • 2020 Domaine Matrot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chalumeaux 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

    Nose with hints of earth, butter, oak, vanilla, wet stones. Lower acidity, notes of salinity. Med+ body. Long finish. Transparent yellow. Slightly closer, flatter nose than the rest of the pack, more butter on the nose than the Pillot.

    Oak, vanilla, butter, fuller and more rounded nose. Transparent, fuller gold color. Hint of wet stones. High acidity, savory, mineral, lush palate. Big body, medium+ finish that lingers.

Flight 2 - Reds (4 Notes)

  • 2019 Domaine du Couvent Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru La Romanée 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

    Pronounced earthy, mushrooms, wet forest floor nose. Medium ruby transparent color. Red fruits too. Touch floral, classic Gevrey. Medium acidity. Structure. Med+ finish. Red cherries on the palate.

  • 2019 Domaine Dujac Morey-Saint-Denis 95 Points

    Wet forest floor on the nose. Similar nose profile to the Gevrey. Shows more mud. Slightly greener on the palate. Mold on the nose. Light to medium ruby transparent color. High acidity. Medium finish. Fruit forward. Silky. Some spices. Complex.

    Nose which is more floral than the previous two. Earthy notes. Pronounced. Red flowers bouquet. Bigger and earthy on the palate. Med+ body. Less fruit, floral notes on the palate. Liquorice. Long finish. Silky. Primary earthy notes overall.

  • 2021 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant 97 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru

    Perfumed. Elevated. Ethereal. Floral. Only a touch of earth. Delicate. Elegant. Lighter. Ahead of the pack. Light, transparent ruby. Balanced yet pushing you with distinctive energy and unusual harmony. Presence through absence. Feminine. Everything else feels flat compared to it. Very monastic, with an oxymoron embedded inside: there’s fruit there but there isn’t. Silky. “Wow!” Punching with elegance. Needs 10-15 years to shine in full. Ontologically different.
