This is one or two increments bigger than the (Coudert, Clos de la Roilette, also 2019) Fleurie, precisely apropos a wine emerging from the battered slopes of Mont Brouilly. But the two wines are more alike than different. Here, the berries are weeping bloody with sap, showing a rigid, iron spine, shrouded as it might be with forthcoming pulpy flesh. Grippy, tannic, vigorous adolescent energy. It finishes with bay leaf, poppies, kirsch liqueur, and a long, imposing, beautifully proportioned basalt finish. Again, repetition rewards with nearly embarrassing sensations of abundant ripe fruit. Drink 2022-2032. 48 HOURS later: marginally the most pleasurable drink from the bottle. Last-Cat wondered why I was blurting out, “damn! (that’s good.)” If 48 hours of aeration improved it so much, then I will use that in a pile of other evidence: it's a good candidate for keeping in a cellar. Drink 2026-2031, I say conservatively. It might just as likely drink at its best until 2040.
