Flight 1 - Champagne (1 Note)

  • 2002 Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru Brut Millésimé 94 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Tasted blind. Quite a developed colour colour. Bready, bright nose. Lots of apples, bruised apples on the nose. Palate of fragrant dried apples. Rich fruit. Some palate breadth and red fruits suggested this included some pinot. Aldehyde and nutty. Some sweetness. Dry finish. Ready to drink now. 94

Flight 2 - White Bracket 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2021 Domaine Jean-Michel Gaunoux Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Wonderful rich deep fruited nose. Chalky, minerally nose. Textured, rich, dense, layers. Long drive. Super structured and minerally. Tart, rich grapefruit. The group was surprised this was a 2021 due to the density and power. This bottle was only a small whisker behind the outstanding bottle I had for Christmas 2024. 95-96

  • 2021 Domaine Jean-Michel Gaunoux Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Lighter and airier nose than the 21 Gaunoux Perrieres next to it. Bright, floral, white flowers and white nectarine and lemon fruit. Fragrant. Tangy. Just so perfectly balanced. I love the broad minerally texture across the tongue. Whereas the Perrieres has power, drive and length, this is all about texture and brightness. To me this is the epitome of 1er Cru Puligny and of Folatieres. 96

  • 2010 Domaine Jean-Michel Gaunoux Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Deep orange colour. Based on the colour, this could have been completely shot...but it wasn't! Rich, developed palate but great texture. Broad and tangy texture. Mouth puckering. Really enjoyable and hanging in there, but I would drink up now. 93

Flight 3 - White Bracket 2 (3 Notes)

  • 2021 Albert Grivault Meursault 1er Cru Clos des Perrières 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Wow - fantastic intense nose. Full and rich with a touch of sweetness. Super fruited. A hint of tropical and roundness, but actually progressively tightened up with time in the glass. With time, the acid, structure and drive were fabulous. Great wine and another 2021 Perrieres with surprising concentration and ripeness. 95.

  • 2017 Henri Germain et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

I had patiently waited years to open one of these. The first bottle I opened earlier in the day was horribly premoxed. This note is for the backup bottle. Nose is a touch muted and oxy. Super structured and thick dense layers of minerality. So concentrated and great texture across the mid palate. Spearmint. The finish is just 5% clipped by premox. When Germain is on, they are fantastic wines, but it is a crying shame that they have so much premox. 91.

  • 2009 Vincent Dancer Meursault 1er Cru Perrières 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Muted but elegant nose. So balanced and elegant. White fruits. Very different body and drive from the 09 Grivault Clos de Perrieres and 17 Henri Germain Perrieres next to it - much lighter and looking like an elegant Puligny. In fact most of the group guessed Folatieres during the options questions. Talcum powder. Super textured. Softness to the back palate is probably reflective of 2009. Buttered popcorn, lemon butter and white flowers. Delicious. 94+

Flight 4 - Curio (1 Note)

  • 1983 Bernard Serveau Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

The colour was red, orange and brown. Sous bois. Asian spice, florals. High acid, salivating. Tart red fruits and really mouth puckering. Tart dry redcurrant. It's likely this has a very small amount of TCA but, even after 43 years, not enough to ruin the wine. 93.

Flight 5 - Red Bracket 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2013 Domaine François Gerbet Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Plantes 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Pure red fruits and barnyard. So many layers of raspberries. Violets, rose petals, perfume, lingering acid spine. Such a light and airy wine that dances across the palate. This is fresh red raspberries compared to the 2016 Berthaut-Gerbet reincarnation next to it which is more dark red raspberries. What a fabulous wine that I could drink for hours as it became more transparent and perfumed the longer it sat in the glass. 96

  • 2016 Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Plantes 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Sous bois nose. Lovely texture and perfume. Slightly richer and plusher than the 2013 version next to it. Feels like there is some oak influence also. Dark raspberry leather. This has the same fragrant lovely rose petals as the 2016, but whereas the 2013 has fresh light red raspberries, this has darker raspberries. Both wines are stunning. 95.

  • 2015 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Plantes 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Hint of varnish on the nose. More sweetness to the fruit. Fresh red fruits. A serious, sterner and harder version of the 2013 Francois Gerbet Plantes and 2016 Berthaut-Gerbet Plantes next to it. As it sat in the glass, more and more raspberries came out. 94.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Nose of intense tart red berries. Violets, so balanced. Super fragrant in the mouth. Rich ripe red cherries with hint of dark cherries. Lovely enveloping mouthfeel. This has a very long and promising life ahead of it. 95

  • 2001 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Some orange and browning. Tart red berries and some brown sugar and barnyard. Sensual, sous bois, tangy, tart. More lifted than the 2009 next to it with finer bones and structure. Lovely texture of lingering fine acid and minerality. This is delicious and right in its peak window. 95.

  • 2020 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Dark dense red colour with some purple which is reflective of the vintage - looks very different in the glass to the 01 and 09. Sweeter and denser fruit. Sweet red cherry, violets and almost into blackcurrant and blackberry fruit spectrum. Super balanced and clean. Ripe. 94.
