Flight 2 - Reds to Follow (8 Notes)

  • 2007 Cecile Tremblay Chapelle-Chambertin 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru

Candied red cherry, some black cherry, this well spiced and so nicely balanced. Tasty and so easy to enjoy, like the best of 2007, with just enough Grand Cru density and oomph.

  • 2005 Joseph Drouhin Charmes-Chambertin 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Easy to enjoy already. A 2005 CdN Grand Cru that is ready, this is charming and elegant, but slightly much sense of terroir to me. Good enough density to almost identify as Grand Cru, but not notably Gevrey-like.

  • 2006 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Hedonistic and opulent start, this starts out so slutty, but starts demanding tom be taken seriously halfway through. Rich with great length and weight, this will be even greater with a little more balance and persistence. But just great now, and maybe better going forward.

  • 2019 Domaine Bruno Clair Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

Precocious baby opened a decade+ too early, but an obvious beauty and powerhouse-in-the-making.

  • 2005 Domaine Bruno Clair Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

Still just teasing us with its potential, I expect it will hits its stride around the same time as the great 2019 tasted alongside. It might even be better than the 2019 given its power, but it is still mostly in brooding mode, but with hints of glamor to come.

  • 1993 Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Domaine Louis Jadot 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

Black fruit, meaty and well spice black fruits. Layered and complex, really shining at its peak right now, and will likely hold well for a decade+ to come. Rousseau Chambertin aside, Group's #1 WOTN, my #2.

Flight 3 - Fun Trapet Flight I Helped Coordinate (4 Notes)

  • 2002 Domaine Trapet Chambertin 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Trapet Chambertin 02/01/98/96 vertical. Rich black fruits, so dense, meaty, and powerful that are still ever-so-slightly firm, but already so tasty. Complex and layered with so much more to come. Rousseau Chambertin aside, my #1 WOTN, group's #2.

  • 2001 Domaine Trapet Chambertin 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Trapet Chambertin 02/01/98/96 vertical. So much like the 1998. Powerful but slightly awkward. Meaty and classically Gevrey, but not perfectly composed as it already enters the back-end of its peak drinking window.

  • 1998 Domaine Trapet Chambertin 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Trapet Chambertin 02/01/98/96 vertical. So much like the 2001 vintage. Both are in their peak drinking windows, closer to the end that the beginning, but neither close to fading. Powerful and dense, but ever-so-slightly awkward.

  • 1996 Domaine Trapet Chambertin 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Trapet Chambertin 02/01/98/96 vertical. Complex and layered, this is a powerhouse with animale, leather, braised meat, and so much more in addition to its rich black fruits. Not nearly as refined as the 2002, but many similarities. My last bottle, and I'm so glad to have finally got it at the right time.
