My first experience with Timorasso and this was impressive. Sweet perfumed floral scents with ripe pear and citrus fruit beneath, and it turns more stony and savoury on the back end. I like the sense of richness on the palate and the glossy, slightly oily texture here - it's rich but never soft, as there's decent acidity beneath that balances it nicely and adds a sense of brightness and tartness to the fruit. Very nice.
Decanted at 6:30 and served immediately. I'm struck by how pale the color is here, a remarkably light ruby red that has me thinking of Truchot's Burgundies. And I can't stop making Burgundy comparisons after smelling it either, as the intensely fresh, sappy red fruited core and sweeter floral and lightly spicy scents are Musigny-esque. There's a fresh, crystalline quality to the flavours on the palate, and the presence here is remarkable - so light and ethereal, with the youthful intensity of the flavours conveyed with barely any sense of weight. It tightens up more with air as the tannins make their presence felt, but this is a thrilling wine to experience now over the course of a leisurely dinner even though there's so much potential ahead. Glad to have a few more.
What a contrast to drink this over an evening alongside the '20 (regular) Pajé, and what an amazing bottle of wine to sit and follow with dinner. The '20 was all youthful intensity and sappy red fruits, but this is all grown up - the flavours are in a deeper register, with more dark fruited and intensely savoury earthy, tarry, and higher toned Alpine herbal notes contrasting with the very primary, red fruited profile of the '20. So complex, particularly in its aromatic profile which keeps revealing new layers every time I return to it. This was served at 7:30 (I believe double-decanted a few hours before, kenv's note will have the details - it was his bottle), but around ~9 PM was when the fragrance had me truly hooked. Like the '20, it's again remarkably light and delicate on the palate - once again, power and intensity with barely any sense of weight - and a hauntingly long finish. Incredible wine.
