Meandered over to Andrew's with a couple of bottles and a view to tasting some wines

  • 2001 Lindeman's Cabernet Sauvignon St. George

    Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra

    Served Blind. Smells old, alcohol prickle, leather, earth, brambles, a little meaty and savoury, fruit dialled back, alcohol warmth plenty of cedar, pleasing woody grip. I went with Coonawarra Cabernet 2000-2005

  • 2010 Jean-Luc Colombo Saint-Joseph La Bise

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Saint-Joseph

    Slight Brett, earthy, savoury, fruit stripped, slight pepper, more of the same on the palate, tannins are fully resolved. Hmm, my expectations were higher based on the vintage and the label. It's a bit tired.

  • 2014 Château Haut Ferrand

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

    Muted plums, sweet spice, earth, leather, sweet spice, a little Brett and meaty underpin. In the mouth it's savoury, earthy, plummy, tannins are drying and slightly tough and it finishes a little bitter. Damn.

  • 2010 Audrey Wilkinson Vineyard Shiraz The Lake

    Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley

    Plenty of plum, blue and black berry, peppery spice, a little leather, earth, slightly reductive notes disperse with agitation. Juicy, fleshy, blue and blackberry backed by plums, sweet and savoury spice, slightly sandpapery tannins, a little almost soy note. In a good spot.

  • 2016 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

    A little orange peel, muted cherry accompanies plum, pot pourri, rose petal on the nose. Fresh acidity, grainy persistent tannins, slight red and black plums, long, still quite simple but balanced and elegant with an underlying sense of weight. Very nice.
