Similar to my previous experience, this was rich with impressive weight but felt a little older so I guessed ’09 Meursault. On reveal it made sense as the dry extract and acidity were still present but with a more oxidative touch and a hint more sweetness that a non-wine nerd friend compared it to Riesling.
I guessed Meursault from a lean vintage like ’11 from an old-school maker such as Pierre Morey but had such superb depth that I guessed MP. Slightly rounded with gentle honeyed notes and got better with air as it gained the gravitas of a classic old-school white Burgundy.

My contribution. Reductive nose which may have been OTT since some said it reminded them of Baygon (which I agreed with). Palate was delicious and seductive because of the combination of tension and opulence, driven by zingy citrus fruit. Thought the chiselled style was more similar to the C&G Boillot I tasted recently than the old-school Boillot style so the change of guard was quite evident,
I initially said that it was a top wine from a singular producer in the region that wasn’t Burgundy so guess I got everything right except the region. Had the weight and depth initially but felt it was a little oxidised but similar to the '06 Coche last weekend it recovered with air, together with the popcorn-like reduction that emerged. Palate also became more Chablisien with saline seaspray notes, but fruit was a little too opulent and sweet (again similar to the '06 Coche) for my liking.
I was kicking myself for not getting this because I guessed the '02 CLB last weekend to be a Grisard because it had a wild strawberry nose and a weightless palate, and other guessed the CLB to be Rayas because of the lychee and slightly candied strawberry notes. So obviously I didn't think of Grisard but went for '12 Rayas stable for this instead.. On reveal it made sense and I really adored this wine for its singularity - quite similar to the '04 that I had in Osaka which was more Pinot-like whereas this was more Grenache-like. So ethereal and singular.

Noticeable brett on the nose with some savoury, meaty notes which led me to guess ’16 Gevrey. When the Méo alongside was revealed not to be a Gevrey, I shifted to Vosne in the vein of G. Mugneret. Was surprised that this turned out to be H-N as it wasn’t as pretty as I had expected although the palate did show some silky and sensual tannins. Pleasurable but not as open as the first bottle I had in 2023.

Completely different from my last experience which was more obviously Méo with darker, blue fruit. This was dominated by acidity and spritzy red fruit that I guessed '11 Fourrier. Not sure if this was fully representative even though I enjoyed it.

So complete and compelling with seductive and sappy dark red fruit on both nose and palate - I commented that this was so typical of the friend who brought this. I guessed '02 Malconsorts from a more masculine producer like Cathiard but when revealed as '06 Richebourg I went for a more feminine producer like Anne Gros. An iron fist in a velvet glove in a style that I adore.
